What is the right way to just sit inside the car without engine on?

Hello

what is the right way if I just want to sit inside the car while waiting?

often times I take my kids to some competition and there will be 1-2 hours long wait.

i just want to sit inside my car without any car power with the keys in my pocket.

i want to lock my car sometimes to take a nap , to prevent any one opening the door while I am napping.

If I lock the car, and often times the alarm goes off if I move around.

What is the right way to do this ?

thanks

but that doesn’t lock the door. I want the car to be locked and mirrror folded.

like right now, I am sitting in the car with doors unlocked. And as I am in nyc I have to be alert around my surroundings…

if I lock my doors, in about 5 min or so, the alarm will go off and I have to use the keyfob to unarm the car. (And unlock)

I don’t know if it detects the weight or if it’s because it senses I am moving around inside the car?

Ok. Please list your requirements while sitting in your car.

You want your mirrors folded. And you want to be aware of your surroundings. How will you do this?

Ok follow the steps above. Leave the mirrors out if you want to be aware of your surroundings. If not then fold them in.

Don't lock using the fob. Lock using the lock/unlock button on the door by the door handle. That should not arm the alarm. That should just lock the doors similar to the auto lock if turned on once you are moving faster than 10 mph. This should also not automatically fold in the mirrors. If you want to fold them in, also do so with the button on the door by the mirror controls. You can manually fold/unfold the mirrors independent of the lock status.

In order to fold the mirrors through the button, the car needs to be put in accessory mode if not running. For someone not knowing you put the car in accessory mode by pressing the start button twice but keeping your foot off the brake otherwise the car will start.
....OR you can fold the mirrors before shutting off the engine and then lock the doors through the door button.
All that will not arm the alarm.

Darn it, all that will require a written procedure for napping inside the car while not activating the alarm every 10 min when I switch my butt sides, I think it's worth it.

Maybe... just maybe... you could lock your vehicle with the key fob and not set the alarm off by turning off interior motion alarm first. That way the alarm only goes off if the vehicle is unlocked and doors are opened without unlocking via they key fob first.

Press the stop button 3 times. I do this all the time. The infotainment screen will stay on for a certain period and then it will show a message that it will turn off if no activity.

If you want to fold the mirrors do it when the car is still on.

I fully understand why you want to do this. The problem is the interior motion sensor that is part of the anti-theft alarm. You have two options:

1: Turn off the interior motion sensor then lock the car with the FOB. Instruction on how to turn off the sensor are below. Note you will need to do this every time as the sensor will re-activate once you unlock and relock the car.

2: As other stated, if you fold the mirrors manually then use the lock button on the door to lock the doors and then turn off the car it should not activate the motion sensor.

Hope that helps.

And it was all coming down to one person here to diligently read the manual and post back. The original post should've started with an ask for a manual read-out.

Why not just keep the car running?
it burns only a few coke can's worth of fuel idling.

Great idea! Wait...but the car has a start-stop feature how do you do that? Anyone feel free to chime in.

There is no such option in my car.

I already outlined how OP can do what he wants to do in my previous post. There is no need to make it so complicated. All you have to do is turn off the car from the stop button.
