Hi - I've got a new 2022 GLS 450 with the emergency braking system that will stop for humans. I presume that the system is AI-based and that it has been trained with images of pedestrians. Can anyone tell me if the system will stop for deer? There are so many where I live that they are a constant danger.

Great question. I would also love to know the answer without having to personally test it out ;-)
That depends on several factors and whether the deer is stationary or moving, and whether you have the Driving Assistance package. Even so, they don't specifically mention deer, just cyclists and pedestrians. The system uses radar and the cameras. Radar only picks up moving objects (Google doppler effect if you are curious how radar works), and the cameras are responsible for the stationary objects. Deer might be large enough to be picked up as a crossing vehicle, but notice w/o the Driver Assistance package, crossing vehicles are not detected. Or it might be detected as a crossing cyclist.
I can answer this question from first hand experience. If your vehicle with driver assistance package is traveling ~35 mph and a deer runs in front of the car, no - the autonomous braking function will not stop your car in time. ~$10K in damage to the front end. Fortunately, insurance paid for most of it.
