Back to the board after a decade's absence.

We have a '14 GL and a 2020 Range Rover that we are looking to consolidate into a single SUV. Need significant cargo area, which is where the GLS really wins out when comparing them to RRs, especially at the 30% RR premium for comparable cars.

We decided on a new GLS last summer. After various dealer games/MB delays, delivery date and model year were pushed into '23. Car is currently due for delivery in March.

Delays pushed us to look around again and now seeing the updated GLE with wireless Carplay and a hybrid. Would love both of those additions to a '24 GLS and now considering letting our existing order to lapse and waiting to reorder until the '24s are available (we have plenty of cars to hold us over).

I am currently waiting on a 2023 GLS63 scheduled to be built March 3rd, ordered June 30, 2023. Based on the extremely late delivery of the 2023 models I would guess that the 2024's are a year out. It may be easies for the GLS450's. My understanding from the dealer is that Mercedes is pushing their electric vehicles so hard that they are restricting their fuel based vehicles.

In the past, the new model year started mid/end of July. I got screwed by one week back in 2013 on my GL63. One week later model year 2014 began so, got a serious depreciation right at the get go which carried through until traded in for 2021 GLS63. Even though very very world demand for the vehicle at the time, I took a hit and nothing I could do since waiting list was so long. I was offered a significant price of sticker while car just a month before production and could have almost purchased a new GL550 for it. I should have taken it. Oh well.

Now with 25k miles and two years old GLS63 (custom build) I still have significant offers well above my sticker (no, I didn't get any discounts on either car) but, they GLS is far more fun to drive than the old GL plus all the bells and whistles.

GLS is a hybrid. I would check with your dealer and see what their wait list looks like.

If it's not a significant increase in price, I would drop the 2023 order and go for the 2024 instead, for a couple of reasons. First, be first in line for the 2024 and maybe you'll actually get it in the same year as it's labeled! Don't see much wisdom in paying new retail for a car that when delivered is already nearly out of its model year. Depreciation factor. But, given the type of vehicle we're talking about here, I doubt a year's worth of depreciation is really all that impactful. Second - it's yet another year away from the introduction, meaning they've had the chance to make improvements from lessons learned already. 2023 fixes are from 2020, 2021, 2022. Might as well add 2023 onto it too, since you're not in a major rush or need for the car. Also, might as well get that wireless CarPlay, because once it becomes available in general, everyone will want it regardless if they use it or not.
