A biker crashed into the rear left side of my 2021 GLS580.
Thankfully everyone is fine, only material damages.
It wasn’t my fault as he run through a stop sign
Aprt from the body parts that can be replaced like the door panel, fenders etc is there a party for the complete side body of the car, also known as the quarter panel? (The one above the wheels)
Or the dealer will have to mold it again by pulling the metal?
I am attaching photos.
Any input is welcome
Kind Regards
Stefanos
Hello,
Wow that's very hard to see, however importantly glad everyone is doing alright. I'm sure there's Mercedes Approved Collison Repair centers around if you look. If anything just try to get a quote or go to a local collision repair shop with reputable service ratings and should be good as new! Thankfully it doesn't look that bad to repair at all.
New rear door, new quarter panel, possibly also adjacent parts.
The quarter panel looks wrinkled near the tailgate which may have deformed the tailgate aperture (non-moving part). Same comment for roof panel. The body shop will sort this out.
the dealer will replace the door panel. New quarter panel ( will have to be cut and welded back). Window of the 3rd row and a couple of other surrounding parts.
body parts cost estimation without painting is 7K euro.
sadly i have to wait a couple of months as the parts have to be produced again in Germany.
I also had a leak right after the crash, right at the start of the rear wheel arch. A liquid started dripping and then it stopped. Like something was emptied. Anyone has any idea what is behind there? I am thinking maybe a tube got unstuck from the crash and it leaked. I doubt there i any tank over there. The liquid was not oil or something. Any ideas?

I'm sorry to see this happened to you. I don't know if Diminished Value is paid where you are, but I would certainly be asking for it. It is possible the leak is something like windshield washer fluid for the rear window.
Can you please give more detail on this insurance article you mention.
I’m not sure we have Diminished Value here in Greece.
More of a legal concept. A vehicle sustaining significant damage diminishes in value compared to an identical vehicle that has not sustained such damage. You should be compensated for that diminished value by the individual, or his insurance company, that caused the damage. Fairly common in the US, although insurance companies will not voluntarily bring it up, or will typically low ball the amount. Generally requires some negotiation.
Thats basically a non replaceable part. It will be fixed. Given door and quarter panel damage guess about 4 to 5 K.
I don't know where he gets this information from. Hopefully that quarter panel was replaced as I see I'm 7 months late. It IS a replaceable panel- I am a Mercedes Benz ELITE Certified repair facility. The quarter panel is weld bonded, adhesive bonded and rivet bonded on that model. The dent maybe could be straightened by a skilled worker, but you have buckling all around the glass that signifies the metal has reach it's tensile strength and should be replaced to be strong enough for future collisions (God forbid). That's usually a $20,000-ish endeavor in the states.
I didn't see any damage around the wheel though, and he would have felt his brakes go out or at least get spongy. The only fluid in that area I can think of would have been a drain tube from the sunroof which dumps out usually behind the wheel. IN the quarter could be a rear AC line if he has 3rd row seats, but refrigerant would have come out under pressure and not "dripped". I'm guessing though
