Is my dealer just trying to get me to buy this 580GLS? He said he is hearing rumors that for 2024 the GLS will only be offered in the 450, which is why he is not budging on the 10k over sticker... should i call his bluff?

I think it is a bluff, never heard of MBUSA discontinuing the GLS 580, if the dealership was so dishonest already, I wouldn't trust them to not rip you off with add-ons later on in the price of the vehicle when you do want to buy it and charging all sorts of fees, overcharging admin fees, mark up through money factor etc.

V8 production has resumed and there are just more and more coming out, even a markup shouldn't be justified as supply is also increasing for vehicles in general, that dealership is only looking at the short term gain and not the long term value of you as a customer.

My suggestion is: Don't walk from this dealership, run from it.

 

FWIW- There is at least one dealer in the Houston area charging a $10K mark-up to retail customers if you order a new 580. Shades of JLR, except their markup is in the $25-100K range depending on the vehicle.

I'd love to see some evidence or a source for this... MB is making a 2024 GLE580 and I'm under the impression that the GLE580 would go away long before the GLS580.

 

That is what he said, that were is a rumor that V* SUV's were no longer going to be going on sale due to average MPG throughout the lineup of MB... I cannot believe this...he also offered me 9k less then car max did for my GLS 550 2017 with 37kmiles...
I have bought 25 cars from him and he services all my cars for me and details them...(i pay for the details)

I just think he said he had his hands tied....i would hate to think they are canceling a coveted SUV

Good point. If anything it will be Europe discontinuing V8 first, the regulations although strict are still somewhat more relax in North America.

@jimand7, not sure if we went to the same dealership but the SA I spoke to wanted $20k over MSRP for a lowly GLS450 due to "global supply shortages of GLS" but was willing to work with me since I had my current Benz serviced there.

I managed to get one at MSRP somewhere else but it was very much needle in a haystack as nearly every MB dealer in the area wanted ADM!

My dealer has had the same 3 GLS450s for at least a month and a half (with $10K ADMs)...and a GLS580 for at least 3 months (with a $20K ADM). Dealers are rapidly entering a fantasy world with these ADMs

580 will continue. it's just unfound rumor that they are not making V8s.

if your dealer is asking for premium $, walk away.
ping me. I'll introduce you to my dealer here. my guy have never charged me any premiums (even during pandemic times) on any of my factory order vehicles.
as a matter of fact, I've always have gotten a few hundred bucks off. it's only a few hundred, maybe a thousand. but still beat other dealership charging premium over MSRP.

The 580 ordering guide has been out for a few weeks now, it might be released slightly later then the 450s which should be entering production soon, but it is definitely coming.

 

My 2024 580 is ordered. MB allowed the dealer to put it through, Still in wait/hold for allocation, but I'm #1 with this dealer. Should have it before the end of the calendar year.
