Any chance the regulations changed recently?
Except for AMG and Maybach models, they also got rid of badging in the back of the car!

The "GLS" and "4MATIC" badging are removed from the rear.

I wonder if the badging was removed just for the marketing PR articles.

No. It’s called out in the article for potential customers to consider:

It also appears that Mercedes has removed the "GLS" and "4MATIC" badging from the lift gate, but opted to retain the chrome trim and star emblem as well as the dual polished exhaust tips coming out from under the rear valance.”

Yes, the vehicle is reserved and won't be sold to anyone else. It's off the market of course to do this you must put a down deposit.

Could that press car just happen to have the badge removed or could the model designation be a factory delete as an option (free of charge I guess)?

I don’t think so. This will surely be a controversial decision!

Would be interesting, I understand why people want to have the GLS badge on their vehicles, it would be strange for sure if MB doesn't offer it on the facelift.

I'm sure Mercedes will offer the badges for a "nominal" fee!

Well, they shouldn't. Factory delete of model designation was always free across the globe, being deleted from the factory (if true) they would have to offer not deleted at no cost option.

Curoius and maybe I missed it, but was OP's GLS totaled out by insurance, or is it repairable?

There was no update on that so hopefully @interlaced can fill us in!

I believe he was going to get rid of the car even if turns out to be repairable.

OP already decided on a CPO (?) and taking delivery once they return. https://www.napleton.news/wp-content...4Matic-007.jpg

I was just curious if a hit like that would trigger a total loss from insurance instead of repairing it.

Car was deemed total loss by Allstate, to me which was unfortunate as it looks repairable, but decided to get another GLS and lucky found another GLS that is CPO with more features than the totaled vehicle had. It is what it is

Airbags and bent frame usually will trigger it, unfortunately.

Might not be a terrible thing (I mean lets think of the positives), you came out unscathed, you get to enjoy features on this new to you GLS that you wanted but was unavailable during the chip shortage on your original GLS.

Rear seat entertinment has never been available in the US, and 2024 is the first model year it's available on the Maybach even.

Yes, I meant on the 580, it's not standard on the 450.

No, they absolutely did not remove the badging. I'd love to see that literature you have, as that is most definitely inocrrect. MB has always debadged the cars that are pictured for the reveal. But they're on the regular cars.

There’s no reason to specifically call out badge removal in a new gen reveal unless its news.

It also appears that Mercedes has removed the "GLS" and "4MATIC" badging from the lift gate” I’m surprised that Motortrend messed this up. MB often shows off new models with no badging
