Unhappy Very Disappointing Day - GLS Accident

At 7:01pm June 28th, my 2022 GLS 450 was in a motor vehicle accident caused by another driver that didn't yield and the impact hit my front right side passenger door. The white car was in a line of traffic in it's left lane then decided to exit into the right lane suddenly while I'm turning left into the road where I'm clear to go to turn as there were no cars passing by and then made a left into the road however the white car tried to slow down but too late. I'm most importantly glad the driver and me made it out okay, car accident's are very scary to experience and never know what may happen. I'm stunned how there's not MAJOR damage to the GLS just the door frame bend, lower running board rail and front right fender bent. Looking at the white car is absolutely destroyed and squashed like a bug in the front. Quality of this vehicle is amazing in terms of safety. MB eEmergency SOS kicked in immediately and within 3 seconds an operator got in touch with me in the car making sure if I'm there and if I'm hurt. Medical professionals and police came right away on scene and everything happened like a flash. Very disappointing about what happened to their car and especially my car, it's only been 1 and a half years with it and I absolutely loved it. For now I'll be looking into the market to possibly get the same similar spec model or I've been eyeing on the new S-Class with it's new nice bells and whistles... Will keep update on which one I decide to get.

Sorry to hear about it and glad to hear you came out unscathed and the other driver as well, what car was the other driver driving? Another thing is to keep in mind that the front is meant to be a crumple zone to absorb the impact so the force doesn't get transferred to the driver, if the other drive hit your car head-on the side of your vehicle (T-boned?) and the result was destroyed front end, that could be one of the reason why.

Ditto the question in the previous post, are you not planning to keep this car? Assuming it was not totaled and from what your described it doesn't sound like it will be totaled.

Thanks for the wishes, I'm glad no injuries it was very worry some. Unfortunately for the car, Allstate will send an adjustor to determine if the vehicle is total loss which the damage doesn't look really that bad at all but it does. Inside front passenger airbag and rear right passenger airbag was deployed. I will most likely get another 2020+ GLS soon.

Thanks once again! The other driver, as seen in the video, was driving the white Hyundai which is wrecked. Yes, the driver did T-bone and caused his car to swerve to the right (the direction pointing to the GLS). Apparently for the GLS, I would like to keep the vehicle and have it repaired at a Mercedes Collision Center near me, however, I'll be going on purchasing a similar vehicle if it's deemed total loss by the insurance company. The damage doesn't appear too bad at all.

Sorry about that, I didn't even notice you have a video posted, I see now. Sorry again that you had to deal with this, glad everyone is safe though.

Does the GLS with E-ABC have presafe for side impacts where it will quickly raise the suspension so the impact will get absorbed into the lower frame?

Glad to hear everyone involved is ok! It doesn't look like a total loss but I would understand if you just wanted it repaired and sold (definitely diminished value involved). You should definitely fight the other person's insurance for diminished value as you'll never see that equity again!

When airbags go off, the value goes down even further because the market assumption is that it was a bad accident.

Tough to say. I think your insurer can give an estimate but I would avoid letting them know about the incident.

I would talk to your dealer. If you are in the market for another vehicle they should be willing to be helpful and at least provide an email with an estimate of the decrease in value.

2021 GLS 450. Have a Holden Commodore, Jeep, truck, and more
You can get an inspection done to determine diminished value. I would have to look up the company that did mine when my truck was hit.

I think the cost of repair will vary greatly depending on damage to A pillar, B pillar, and the rocker area. Those aren't simple or cheap repairs. It's hard to tell if the door is simply twisted or if the pillars are bent as well causing the misalignment.

I am glad you are ok. That is the most important thing.

See video clip of it on S-class @ 1:10 here
During the accident, I didn't really notice the vehicle immediately inflate up like the video shown, of course, my car didn't have E-ABC. I assume perhaps if my vehicle did have E-ABC I wouldn't be too sure if it would do the same as the video with the new S-Class. Good question.

Certainly makes you wonder actually. Obviously at the same time you don't want to experience it... for obvious reasons. Let's hope no more accidents going forward : )

100%.

A month ago there was a freak accident where a truck tipped over while driving on an overpass and a bag of cement fell onto the interstate below hitting a GLS in the windshield, killing the front passenger. 😔
