Pirellis on front, Michelins on rear

Hi all,

My GLS 580 came with the OEM Pirelli all season tires. My car now has ~25K miles on it and the rear tires are done, but the fronts still have quite a bit of wear left.

I'd like to switch over to Michelin Primacy all-seasons. Would it be ok to swap the rear tires over to Michelins now and then swap the front tires down the road when they wear out or do I need to change both front and rear now?

I would never do that, personally.

You don't need to but I would change them all if it was my situation. Here are 2 more reasons you may want to change all now. 1. The Michelins spec'd for the GLS are MO S which means they are for the Mercedes MO and the S is for silent. I have these and they are very quiet. 2. There are often rebates from Michelin if you buy 4 tires.

I see no harm in it, other than looks, and by the time the rear michelins are done, the front Pirelli’s will be done too, therefore your chance to replace all with Michelins. You’ll get about twice the mileage out of the fronts as you get on the rears in a staggered setup (which I presume you have here?)

Exactly my thoughts. They aren't vastly different performance specs so I don't see why it would matter.

Different tires have different grip and handling characteristics, I just wouldn't do that.
