GLS580 vs CPO GLS63

Drove a GLS450 last week, was a great truck but a little down on power compared to our current V8 GX and LX Lexus trucks.

Was going in to the dealership see what the GLS580 offered after driving a CPO 2022 Escalade.

Had an opportunity to drive a new GLS580 and a CPO (3k mile) GLS63. Of course the GLS63 is a completely different animal but would it ultimately hold value better than a similarly priced, new GLS580?

We drive my wife's truck about 20K miles a year. The CPO warranty (extended to cover 3 years after factory warranty is done) would really shine for our needs. But, ideally, the less time the truck would spend getting repaired, the better. One could only wish for Lexus levels of reliability but I understand thats not likely.

Got the impression that a new truck would come with a "market adjustment" also so not too thrilled about that... Not opposed to searching out a CPO 580 but curious what would be the better/ hassle free daily.

580 is a better daily driver. Especially if you are used to a Lexus. Also brakes, tires going to be a lot more on a 63 and will have to be replaced more often.

What year is the CPOed GLS 63AMG? And I’m assuming the GLS580 is a 2024 but I guess it’s possible it’s a 2023. I think it shouldn’t be hard to get a 2024 GLS580 without a market adjustment if you shop around. That wasn’t the case 6 months ago but is heading that way now (maybe because of higher interest rates).

2022. told them id only consider if they cut a deal on the extended CPO coverage and the manager seemed responsive to that.

580 would be ordered new, dealership has allocations so wife could order to her spec. Delivery in April the latest.

browsing CPO 580s and it looks like theres savings to be had for 2023 models with under 10k miles. +\- $20k

still debating

GLS450 (2024), C300 (2023), EQE350+ (2024)
Considering the 2024 facelift and revisions (mostly minor, except for the new NTG), I would certainly go for a 2024 GLS580 if it were me.

2020 S63 4matic+
We traded my wife's 2021 GLS450 for 2024 GLS450. I was on the fence between 2021 GLS63 and 2024 GLS450. My wife said she does not need the GLS63 power and she liked gls450 on the lot - this is how we ended up with another gls450. I drive s63 and would choose gls63 any day over gls 580 if it was for myself.

If you're looking for 2021+ with low milage, why are you talking CPO? It will still have the factory 4/40k warranty and can be extended.
We grabbed up a 2021 580 with ~7k miles in November. Warranty is good until 2025. I don't know who had it or what they used it for but it doesn't even look used. Most of the protective plastic sheets were still in place. While I'm sure the GLS 63 would have more go the 580 doesn't feel like the big heavy vehicle it is.

GLS63 vs the GLS580 is a night and day difference in every aspect of driving....

With that said, my wife decided that she would prefer spec out her "perfect" GLS580 brand new than buy a GLS63 just because it was for a great price... So we are going that route. Will likely be extending the factory warranty as suggested. Shopping around for the best deal starting tomorrow.

@dmash just got a 580 for $5k under MSRP I believe. Deals might be out there similar to his.

The boys at my trusted indi who are ex MB dealership mechanics, say AMG stands for All Money Gone… when you learn that the rear tires on the AMG version last about 10k miles and probably cost around $450-$500 a piece…well, you have to hand it to ‘em…

We’re at 65k on our 2020 450 and has been good. Minor defects and hassle to get parts for warranty work, but that’s about it. Key to owning is a trusted indi. Just had our oil done yesterday, $180 with same MB oil and filter as dealership at $500+.

Look at the rim size of whatever one you're considering and then go to tirerack and look up options. Yes the 22’s are nice looking, but you may have trouble finding tires that aren’t summer tires at that size. We’re 21’s staggered and need new fronts (3rd pair), and having a time finding the Michelin Primacy AS that we use.. fronts last about 45m, rears last about 25k..

Or do the maintenance yourself, these are not difficult to work on.

I would certainly agree! The only drawback to DIY (which I have done extensively on all past vehicles leading up to my MB’s) is the lack of record for the car. On the GLS, given the complexity of a mild hybrid, turbo, and supercharger all crammed into one engine, I honestly did not have hopes that I wouldn’t be facing something with it by now. One thing I wanted to make sure I had was a layer between me and the car when it came to records of proper maintenance if I found myself in a pi$$ing contest with Mercedes. But we’re definitely getting there now in age and mileage where DIY makes more sense. When I DIY my oil changes, I prefer to run about a cup of seafoam in the oil for about 30 minutes of idle, let it sit to settle down in the pan, and sacrifice a quart of new oil to wash it all out until I see the new coming out of the drain plug. You would be surprised how effective the seafoam trick is to smooth out idle and quiet down an engine. Usually once every 20-30k miles is all it takes. I’ve heard all of the warnings over the year across all brands about causing leaks or damaging sensors, yet never once in 20 years since I learned about it has any of that happened. Now, I just do it before I take it over to the shop for an oil change. Gently drive it over, no hotdog.

one of the reasons I bought this Bronco recently is because of how easy DIY is on it. No funny business or specialized tools.

did this while I was at the dealership. Only one option for the 22s it seems. Would have dealt with it.

went to OEM 20s from 21s on our LX570 to get more options for tires and a smoother ride. Went from 17s to 18s on my C4 ZR1 for the same reason. Always willing to upgrade where necessary lol

Going after a new 580 either way. Will buy the extended warranty and let the dealership worry about this thing for as long as possible. I’ll be doing oil changes every 5k on my own though.

Ive got too many other cars that need attention (love) to worry about my wife’s daily. Problem arises, drop off, get loaner, down the road I go.
