It's got the 23" option and the tires look like they are almost gone. Surprised at only 15k miles. It's a used car i'm looking at and curious what people are seeing in their own experiences?
I know they wear fast, but damn if they only last 15k miles, that's like 3k in tires/yr.

Mercedes, especially AMG models, especially with large wheels, and especially GLS, are known to rapidly consume tires. Not surprising. Browse the GL, GLS and AMG sections and you will see this is common and normal.

15k isn’t bad actually for the soft rubber summer tire of the AMG. In fact, since it’s a used car, i’m willing to bet those are the second set of tires and not the originals.. you’re basically replacing tires with every oil change interval on the AMG…
i know they’re cool and flashy, and I mean no disrespect towards it or those who like it, but I honestly don’t understand the appeal or the point of the AMG GLS. Granted I have never driven one, but the GLS isn’t a vehicle I really see as a fun sports car. Just sheer size and height. We’ve got two in our neighborhood, and whenever they’re behind us in our 450 leaving the neighborhood, they both seem to make a point of flooring it to pass us to show off, yet we just laugh at them. It’s a family SUV, that probably couldn’t take a pothole hit or get across a wet grassy field.
I drove a 166 GLS63 and wasn't impressed. Too big and heavy, too little engine and exhaust sound in the cabin. Too bargelike for the hoped-for experience from the engine.
i currently have a 18' GLS 550. That tire package is all season and will be 3k as well to replace, but at least year round traction. Maybe because this car has the 23" summer only, I'd need a winter set to offset it. This was a $5,150 option added according to sticker. What I don't know is if you try to drive a summer tire in the winter, does it wear faster.

It is not 3k to replace a set of all seasons on an GLS550. The Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 run $1715 a set and they are probably the best all around performer for this truck. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...0&autoModClar=
I have them on my 17 GLS550 and it looks like I’ll get at least 30k miles out of them with rotations.
A GLS550 is fast enough. The 63 in this size vehicle is overkill and not much more performance compared to the cost of admission and extra maintenance expense. If you want more performance, Renntech tune your 550 or get a sports car.
If you are looking for a tire with long life, get one with a higher wear rating, probably over 400.
I believe Michelin defender has a 480 wear rating, and some people report 50 to 60,000 mi on a 167.
On the other hand, if the tires are Ultra High Performance UHP, the wear rating is 200 or 280, and they are designed to stick, which means faster wear.
Add the weight of the driver's foot to the equation, and a tire will wear somewhere between 10 and 50,000 miles.
With sticky tires (200 wear rating) the car outperforms a lot of more sporty cars. There's no reason not to have fun on a fun car.

the summer tread is a softer compound (which gives it the stickiness to the road). Beyond wearing faster, when they get cold they get hard and become slick on the road. I honestly don’t know why any “SUV” would be confined to summer tires only above Tampa FL!

It’s more about the engineering overall. I have an Audi s8. It’s mountains better than a regular a8. Rides better, better suspension and more power. AMG cars usually get features lower models don’t especially in suspension area that make them more fun to drive and they put more luxury in them. So a 21 AMG and 21 gls580 for 10k difference, the AMG puts more capabilities for 10k more if that makes sense.
