2024 GLS580 delivered!!! Meet “Pingu”
Greetings GLS forum!!
It was time for my wife to hand me down her 2017 Lexus LX570 and she needed a new ride.
We test drove the new LX600 which we were looking forward to upgrading to since its release and were VERY disappointed with the interior redesign. No where near the space for me in the drivers seat (Im 6’6”) and the kids in the back (2nd row seat sits alot higher due to space reserved for a hybrid battery pack).
Long story short, we got an allocation for an April 09/10 GLS580 build.
I’ll share the build sheet along in the pictures below.
We took delivery of the truck yesterday and are thrilled with the outcome! Sharp truck, roomy and quick!
We found a 2022 GLS63 with 6k miles that was CPO’d for the same price as this truck but that thing was a BEAST and completely unnecessary for daily driver duties. Plus its white interior and seat belts would have been trashed after a week of my 8 and 10 year olds riding in it lol
We got the extended warranty for 5 years/100k miles as we drive about 20k per year and they didnt offer any coverage over 100k miles 🫠
Sending the truck to get PPF’d tomorrow then I take over driving the LX!

Like the plague!!! LOL
I was tempted as it would be covered under warranty but i'd rather not have to deal with any more dealership visits than necessary.
Part of me wishes I sprung for the premium stereo but that was a pricey pickle also LOL

Had it in the 2020 450 and it spoiled me. I had a brain fart that caused me to skip that package because it would have taken me over 100k.
It was the biggest check I've ever written in my life, but pennywise was not a wise decision in my case.

Looks great! I've got the MB-Tex door coverings as well. Unfortunately, I didn't custom order, but I would have gone leather there.
I just emailed my parts guy to get options on wheels and all-season tires.

Excited to see what this thing can do (mildly) with some decent all season/ all terrain tires eventually.
I remember noting how rare the Off Road package was in the early GL models so I figured I wanted to at least include it in my build. Didnt get the Trailer Maneuvering option also but did opt for the hitch. I figure... I can back up a trailer the old school way LOL

I went with 20" winter wheels with a very tall side wall that had an almost-identical total diameter to the 23s. Worked a treat.
The trailer assist - I think I'm too dumb for it. Whenever I find the button for it, it tells me that it's not calibrated. I managed to calibrate it once and even the it didn't do much for me. Might be another bullet dodged for you!

I liked everything about my '17 LX570 except the insanely stupid nav screen joystick controller that sends the screen cursor careening uncontrollably all over the display in response to the slightest and quickest touch input. Turning the A/C on and off was an invitation to a 12 car pile up. I traded the car 2 years ago entirely because of this and because Lexus refused to upgrade its software to remedy this user hostile feature, despite owner and dealer complaints about it. I'm now in BMW X7 that I'm enjoying very much, having disabled its software upgrade "feature" and its auto s/s. Its A/C on/off is controlled by antiquated technology -- a single physical lever switch, which I've trained myself to operate.
