Rat Farts!!

Rat Farts…. And since they’re about 50% through their current tread life, two new ones instead of one on the way. $900 rat farts by the time it’s done. We’ll see how good Tirerack’s road hazard policy really is! These are up to $375 per tire now…

Should be repairable. It's within the tread, not sidewall.
Go to Discount Tire, who owns TireRack now. Might be free flat repairs, too.

I have plugged that type of puncture and the tire served faithfully for another 18 months at which time it was replaced because the treads were done.

I would but this is my wife’s car for our kids that sees a lot of I95 time without me in the car. I just can’t risk it. It’s literally right on the very spot where the sidewalk and tread come together. Just one of those things…

Your thought is same as mine. On my old X5M I had a nail same place. It was outside what Michelin considered repairable area then (2018).

You might have to find a tire shop that will do it but a plug patch will likely take care of that for the remaining life of the tire. Worst case it leaks slowly. I can't see that being in danger of a catastrophic failure.

That can definitely be patched, but I totally agree with your about prioritizing your family's safety. I'd plug it on my car, but not her car lol

TireRack's road hazard warranty works great, BTW.

It would be nice if that patch could be double reinforced so that the worst that could happen as a result would be a slow leak.
