This 2020 US based GLS 450 uses the red brake light as turn signal.
It looks like MB designed this light assembly for all markets, but conveniently disabled the amber turn signal for the US.
Has anyone enabled or retrofitted this light assembly to use the amber turn signal?
I sure wish Mercedes used Amber turn signals for all of their cars. They only do it for a select few. When I asked the AMG folks about this a few years ago, they said it was a requirement for the US to use red rear signals, which is not true and is unsafe.
I believe they do at least use different LEDs for the turn and brake signals so not as unsafe as some vehicles but also not as obvious as a yellow turn indicator.

If I recalled correctly, they only started doing amber signals (very similar if not identical to Europe market cars) starting on MY21 vehicles in the USA, like the GLA, the new W206 C-Class, the new W223 S-Class, the new W214 E-Class, etc. Did the X167 GLS and V167 GLE facelift get amber signals as well?
I noticed that X167's update for 2024 have amber turn signals, but the earlier years starting in 2020 did not. I remember MBs and all European cars used amber signals up until the early 2000s when automakers started to customize cars for the North American market.
