AMG GLS run flats?
I’m looking to switch from an X7 to an AMG GLS. The Mercedes rep I have been speaking with said that all AMG GLS models have run flat tires. I am having trouble verifying this on the mbusa.com site. Can anyone confirm if this is true? I will be getting the upgraded Burmester sound system and am planning on the 22-inch AMG multispoke wheels. Any validation on the run flats would be much appreciated. Thank you!

And as someone who had run flats on a CLS 450 I can tell you they are garbage and you don't want them.
I’m concerned about the no run flats. The idea of getting a flat and having to wait for a tow truck isn’t super appealing. I’ll have to do some more research on this. I’ve had run flats for the last 10 years, and it’s been a real life saver a few times. Thanks again for the quick responses!

Something I suggest all players in this game do is purchase the First Class Wheel and Tire package for the duration you expect to own your vehicle. It's a MB branded product albeit deployed by a 3rd party but it will save you countless thousands of dollars and headaches. I have far exceeded what I paid with every car, especially my CLS which has had no less than 6 front tires and wheels replaced and no charge to me except a $50 deductible. It's also fully refundable at a pro-rated amount as long you don't have an active claim and it's also fully transferable to new owners with a couple pieces of paper.
I have a 22 450 which came with the factory 23" non-AMG wheels and I have a factory "spare" tire, an inflator and sealant. I can show you a picture of all three if you would like but this eBay listing shows the spare that I have. You can clearly see it does in fact exist.

And lastly, just as a blanket statement... if you are looking for any sort of "convenience" I would NOT buy one of these cars. As convenient they are not. Pretty. Comfortable. Safe. Fast if you get the AMG. All of this describes this vehicle. Convenient it is not.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I can't say I would never buy a car with run flats again because that is unavoidable but, I would never purchase a run flat tire when they wore out, nor would I accept a run flat as a warranty replacement. The ride quality and performance are both garbage. And when you are talking about a vehicle that weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 6000 pounds give or take, I would never feel comfortable enough with a run flat tire to drive it in such a way that was the purpose of why I bought such a brash vehicle in the first place.

They moved the DEF inside the gas flap with the 166.version, so no more runflats.
Not AMG.

What did you end up doing about the run flats on your CLS 450, because I’m having problems with them now. they keep getting flats on bumps in the road & now the rims are cracking. I had 3 cracks. What do you think I need to do about this situation?

Run flats have stiffer sidewalls, but I wouldn't think enough to crack a wheel without a major impact.
Good luck .
