2018 GLS63 - 55K Miles - Extended Warranty Necessary?
A little apprehensive on some of the issues with turbocharger/engine failures reported in the forum, do you guys recommend an extended warranty for a vehicle with this sorta profile ? If yes, would this be an engine or drivetrain one ? Thanks 🙏

You are in the post 2020, X167 forum. You might get better feedback from the 166 forum, 2019 and earlier.
I have a shop I use and love for my CLS which is now out of warranty and I was considering this like you are now, and I asked them straight up what they thought and they flat out told me that most of them are garbage and several of them they won't even deal with because the process is so ridiculous that they would rather turn away business instead of going through the hassle of trying to get a claim authorized.
I'm not saying they are all bad or useless but you definitely need to take your preferred repair facilities into account when considering this. At the end of the day, these are all independent businesses and nobody can force them to honor an aftermarket warranty product if they don't want to.

Turbo wastegate failure (ongoing but very rare)
48V shorting / malfunction (solved)
Generally the electronics will fall apart fast (my mom's GLS already has a daytime light out at 80k)
Otherwise engine is proving to be reliable, use 5w-40 oil since consensus is oil solenoid cannot be dealt with, do 5k oil change intervals
Love this engine, i have TWO!
