2024 GLS Shaking at Idle
Per the previous comments, my SA did acknowledge that part of the repair will include a software update, which was odd considering a tech had not looked at my 580 when he conveyed this info. I will report back once the repair is completed.

DId cylinder deactivation caused the misfire? Or was this already discussed in the thread and ruled out?
Chasing the cylinder misfire issue, the dealer conducted an exhaust smoke test, checked all ground wires, inspected the turbos, and checked for leaks. All results were negative. Shop foreman mentioned there was a software update that would change the fuel rail pressure parameters, which he suspected was the culprit in the misfire problem. Software was updated and problem seems to have abated. Granted, I have only driven 20-25 miles since the repair but the shaking/vibration at idle seems to be gone, and the truck does seem to be running much more smoothly. I’ll need to put more miles on it in order to be sure, and I’ll report back with findings later.
Also, two other interesting items from the service visit. First, I noted when I dropped the car off Monday that the oil level was already at the minimum, according to the off-road menu gauge (this is a new 580 with only 5k miles). According to the shop foreman, the software update also recalibrated the oil sensor, and the off-road oil gauge is now reading exactly at the midpoint with zero oil added. Not sure what to make of this but it’s conceivable the software update introduced a myriad of changes to multiple systems.
Secondly, I asked my SA to have the tech check the brakes, which were squealing loudly at low speed braking. To my surprise, the shop installed brand new rotors, pads, and sensors on the front end. This seemed overly generous and a bit of an overreach for a simple complaint about brake squeal. When I pressed for a mechanical explanation, the response was fuzzy. I can’t be sure but it would seem MB knows of an issue but doesn’t want to widely advertise it or file an official recall, so they are handling on a case by case basis. I was genuinely shocked but pleasantly surprised. As I’ve stated previously, the service shop at my dealer is exceptional.
