Emergency braking - IMPRESSIVE
I’m really impressed and love this car. We were driving at around 45 MPH in town when the car in front of us suddenly stopped, thinking another car would enter its lane. I missed that while being distracted by the CarPlay screen vchanging music for about a second. Fortunately, the emergency braking system activated and slammed the brakes, even though it was a heavy SUV - the GLS stopped quickly and safely, on time. This is probably the first time in a decade that I ever experienced the emergency braking taking over or doing something in any of my cars. Am just impressed by how quickly the car reacted, but also how quickly it stopped yet with all-season tires in 40 degF weather….

I actually set the sensitivity to high/early. I really like it this way even if it causes false positives. For false positives, all I have to do if it happens is to just poke the accelerator paddle a tiny bit to keep it moving forward without over-braking.
During that event in my original post, I was actually more concerned and scared about any vehicle behind my as in a fraction of a second I was 100% confident that the car behind me won't be able to stop or react that fast no matter what (unless it's another german car lol). Luckily the car behind me was at least 5-6 cars distance behind us. When the car was braking, first thing I reacted to was looking at the rear mirrors waiting for a car behind me to crash into us..... Huge relief when I saw no cars right behind me.

False positives from my experience are only when the drive assist cruise control is on... In this case, in fact, the adaptive cruise control wasn't even turned on, which is even more impressive.
I actually set the sensitivity to high/early. I really like it this way even if it causes false positives. For false positives, all I have to do if it happens is to just poke the accelerator paddle a tiny bit to keep it moving forward without over-braking.

Frankly I never expected the car in front to slam the brake. There was no reason to even do so. She was just scared that someone from the middle lane was going to merge in but he was just waiting and slowly moving forward within the middle yellow marked lane until we pass him. I wish DMV offices would take it seriously before they issue driving licenses. A well trained driver would never stop that way for nothing. She could have just continued, or if worried, maybe turned slightly away just to make sure. Well, I am also to be blamed for leaving one 1-car distance and then look away on carplay without even adaptive cruise control.

I have been impressed by this as well.
The rear ones are there in a lot of cars already, but MB ones are more precise for sure and less false positives.
I have had a couple of warnings on the front collision with crazy drivers swerving lanes.

I don't know what the distance was exactly when it first occurred caused I was looking at the screen, but I was definitely very close already (like maybe closer than the legal distance I should normally leave). If I have to guess, I think I had only 1-car distance between me and the car, looking for a fraction of a second to change music album, and that car in front of me slammed the brake cause the lady was afraid by another car next to her (assuming it was going to merge into her car which was NOT the case). If I have to guess, I think my car responded immediately. I think the car was nervous already cause I was driving too close, and as soon as the car in front of me stopped (I think the car in front of my slammed the brakes too), my GLS also slammed within no time cause it literally happened the second I looked away. It happened so quickly. If there was no emergency car in my vehicle, within 1-2 seconds I think my car would have crashed into that car that slammed the brakes. Driving at ~45 MPH, with 1-car distance gap, I think that's just one second.

I can see a full stop if you had Distronic engaged, but I thought emergency braking disengaged at @ 10mph. Maybe an older version.

Our GLS automatic systems have saved our tails more than two or three times. It has not been wrong yet. Great system for us. Now, if only the one in our Sprinter was not SO STUPID (it turned on three times yesterday driving home from a park).

I have only had this system engage once or twice, when traffic ahead decelerated unexpectedly. I have been on the brakes already in both cases. The brakes throw you into the shoulder strap, and the strap tightens at the same time. Uncomfortable when it happens, but comforting to know that it is available when needed.

False positives with these systems are overstated. I have had cars with this technology since 2014, and I have had them activate as false positives twice, once in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the second time was in my 2017 Lexus LS460L. When you consider thats probably 300,000 miles of driving thats pretty rare. This is great tech.
