GLS450 year 2020 - TPMS installation for Canadian SUV
I have a GLS450 year 2020 in Canada. Recently we had two flat tires and I couldn’t tell which tire was loosing pressure. Anyone installed TPMS either through Mercedes or is there an aftermarket solution? it looks like all US models have it, as it’s required. While my Car is built in US for Canadian customers and Mercedes purposely didn’t install it. Someone told me that the reason is so Canadian vehicles can’t be exported to US.
When I contacted Mercedes here is the response I got. “Your vehicle is equipped with a tire pressure loss system (TPLS) and not a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The TPMS measures pressure and has independent sensors on the valve stems, visible on each tire. The TPLS compares the relative speed of rotation of the front axle vs. the rear axle and triggers a warning if it detects a significant difference. The TPLS is less prone to malfunctioning in cold weather climates and allows our customers to swap summer tires to winter tires without worrying about mounting the tires on rims equipped with valve pressure sensors.”
