I have a 6 month old GLS and noticed a decent sized ding on my drivers side door but I never recieved a notification on my app so I checked the app to verify the parking damage detection was activated and on and it was. So I contacted MB customer care and they've been "looking into it" for over 3 weeks now with no answers for me. I took the car to my local MB dealership and they're telling me their technition is caying the collision detection only works for the front and back bumpers but MB customer care says thats not true that it works for the entire vehicle. Can someone please let me know if they have any idea who is correct here? Clearly from the photo of the menu in my car, its missing and both sides just want to blame rather than get to the bottom of this. Please help!!
Could your damage have been caused by a low impact event? Not enough impact to sense?
There must be a threshold, otherwise someone brushing against your car while walking beside it would set off the alert.
I agree there probably is a threshold. Here is the dent in the door. Seems like it had to be a hard enough hit to create. Does anyone know if the dealership tech is right? Are only the front and back bumpers covered? Also why doesn’t my car even show the option in the menu screen? Could something have been felt out of my car during build or is this purely software?
It likely needs to sense the impact through the chassis sensors. That impact, while significant, wouldn't be very high in comparison to an actual car on car impact. I can personally say that the system does detect minor car on car impact. Our GLS had the rear driver's corner rubbed/bumped only enough to scuff the paint and wheel but it did trigger the collision alert when we got in the car to leave.
Ok… I was under the impression that the parking damage detection was meant for small minor things like door dings and shopping carts, like how the teslas take the images if someone dings a door or something.
Can anyone with a 2024 GLS check theiur menu screen and tell me if the menu looks the same as mine?? The dealership is telling me on the 24 and 25 GLS that the menu option for collision detection does not exist and that it is only activated when tow away protection is on... No one can give me a definitive answer.
The 2024 GLS doesn't have the parking guard feature. Which is annoying because my windows advertise the car as having the feature.
The infotainment is so slow to boot every time the car turns on, I wouldn't be surprised if the CPU is too outdated to handle the parking guard feature. The dash cam doesn't start recording until I've started the car, driven all the way through a store parking lot, and entered the side road.

I had the exact same problem with my dashcam. I shrunk the 1 TB partition down to 64 GB and not only did the dashcam start recording before I left my driveway but the entire infotainment system got faster too. Leads me to believe it's a problem with too much system memory being used for disk caching.
Ok.. is there any chance this is a wider issue?
MB corporate says the cars system should look like the loaner I posted… and look at the manual. The app also shows it’s activated. Are you all seeing the same?

@Jmorris22 The app's "Theft Notification and Parking Damage Detection" is a simpler feature, without video, different from "Guard 360" which is akin to Tesla's sentry mode. That said, my app shows the same as yours.

EDIT: Solved. I had set the drive as GUID and that didn't work with Mercedes. I set it to MBR and it worked. To make the smaller partition, I first used Mac to erase the drive and set to MBR. Then I used Windows to delete the existing volume and create a new volume of only 128 GB exFAT. The Mercedes liked it and the infotainment is booting faster now.
