Do NOT use Rain-X

There is a class action lawsuit against Rain-X affected multiple car brands...including MBenz brand name in it..

While it's not that common here on Benz forums, there is a ton of discussions on BMW forums about issues caused by Ran-X due to silicon/silicone used their products that doesn't work well in the washer systems of these car brands. Most manufacturers use sensor in their reservoirs, some are more sensitive than other, and the chances that you will certainly have some issues is probably not very high but also not very low based on what I have seen around. And now, there is this class action lawsuit with MBenz brand name in it as an one of the impacted brands.

I haven't checked the manual for any of my Mbenz manuals, but most other manuals I have seen clearly state to NOT use products that contain silicon/silicone..

Good luck everyone...

To be clear this is about Rain X washer fluid or washer fluid additive, not the typical Rain X windshield treatment.

I use RainX all over the place with great results. Never, not ever tried the over priced washer fluid stuff. I do think that is what caused a crazy gel in the washer tank of our RV (Sprinter)...it was thick goo in the bottom of the tank.

I have been using Splash Weather repel washer fluid for years without any issue. I use it year round. Can get it at Home Depot and Lowes for under $4/gallon. My MB has the 875 Heated Screen Wash System- Heated reservoir and heated nozzles.

In my years I have tried all different types of cleaning products, Rain X cleaner, Rain X anti-fog, Invisible glass cleaner etc and was never blown away thinking its a must use product. For cleaning I prefer glass cleaner from the Dollar Store. I'd probably use it in the windshield fluid reservoir if it wasnt so cold around here in winter.

With the Rain X I wonder how many people had sensors replaced when they probably could have just used a regular windshield fluid to flush and clean the system/sensor.

No they mean the stuff that goes in the washer reservoir. No issue with Rain X applied to the windshield...other than there being much better products today.

That’s what I use in ALL my cars. It is a concentrate
Not only that is the cheapest to use per unit volume once mixed at home with distilled water or water, it is also the best product I tried. Works well, 100% safe, no ceramic or silica additives. Also, you can mix them to any freeze protection temp (there is a table for mix ration with water, so I make a summer mix and then prepare winter mix as needed for the season)..

if you buy 12 bottles, they come nicely packaged in one large OEM box that fits them perfectly dimensionally, so I also use that as their storage box.

I wanted to get that just for the fun of having a matching brand for my GLS, but when I looked at the cost, I think it was twice or triple for Mbenz branded one. Not a big deal, but given that there is not much science in methanol/alcohol and ethylene glycol mixtures, I opted to go with the cheapest yet branded option which is what I posted. Plus Mbenz has one for winter and one for summer, and I didn't want to carry two products. Where did you usually get the winterfit concentrate from and what's the cost for bottle and it's fill volume?

I use the Winterfit year round, thats what all the dealers do. Its actually difficult to get the summer product. I get it from Amazon, last time I bought it I paid $20 for a liter.

It can, modern glass coatings are just much better. I use Glaco.
