My S600 vs. Porsche GT3

Went to my local drag strip 2nite and thought I take the big body out for a few passes. I have an '03 S600 which is bone stock down to the tires. I was having fun whooping up on all the mustangs, camaros and jap crap, when a new Porsche GT3 pulls in next to me in the staging lanes. I thought to myself this is gonna be fun. The traffic director waves both of us up to the line. We line up a the tree, the countdown starts and I hammer it off the line. The 600 pulls so hard that once you get in front of someone and the turbos start blowing hard, you will never be caught. I whooped a world class track in my 4 door family mobile. You gotta love Benz. Attatched is the timeslip for that race (on the left) and one from my best time of the night(on the right). I made about 15 passes and never lost once!!

Yup, I think I'm gonna slap the drag radials on the SL and smoke some Cobras.

Man, those cars are in incredible.

You gotta get the Renntech ecu mod like Trey. All the sudden your car pulls 11.5's. You'll have people around your car like it was Tom Hanks.

Wish we could have had video of the people watching....they laugh when we pull up and stand in silence as we fly away...

Just out of curiousity, how exactly do you launch the S600?

I find it best to run your car with; ESP off, Trans in D (in S mode) the car's trans computer can shift much more efficiently than you can, ABC off, do a small burnout (in front of the water, not in it), brake torque the car to about 1000-1500rpm before launch (this allows the turbos to be already spooling when you leave the line). I also use 100 octane unleaded race fuel on race day, the higher octane makes your forced induction (turbo/supercharged) motor run much more efficiently. I have noticed as much as .4 sec difference with 100 octane.

Don't forget with our sticky air in the middle of August, you woulda clocked a few ticks faster in January.

Great runs!

Ha Ha, until you turn the wheel...

As a Porsche owner and recent MB beater owner, I think this is funny. Out side of a 1/4 mile track, I put my money on the GT3. JMHO

Not a great first post, but just couldn't resist.

yeah, but ask the average person by looking at the 2, which is faster in a drag race, I bet they don't guess the 4500lb Benz.

I think it's funny too...that a big *** 4 door family mobile is faster in a drag race than a race bred Porsche.

Oh BTW, whenever you're ready to get on a track and "turn the wheel" let me know, I've got something for that too.

What kind of Porsche do you have? Bring it out to the track so I can whoop up on it in my S600 too!

I'm not surprised by the results...drag races aren't a Porsche's strong point even if it is a GT3. How many Porsches do you see drag racing against 1000+ hp Supra's and Skyline's? Circuit racing, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter.

Renn- I think the guy probably saw your "4 door family mobile", didn't see an AMG badge anywhere and thought it would be easy pickings

Love live cars which are generally owned by those who know that their cars have some soul, rather than those who want to believe that their cars have souls, even though their cars all look the same.

Yeah, I'll let you figure that one out.

GT3 is not a drag racing car, I honestly laugh at the owners taking these cars to the drag strip. Take it where it was ment to be taken, to the road course!

100 octane thats pretty serious. Where do you find that? must be real expensive for a fill up, esp with that V12 guzzler. Nice kill though!

Our local 76 station carries it, these days it's not much more than premium: $3.29 vs $5.49
