At least you have now admitted that your Rustang is a "cheaper inferior vehicle"...

I was waiting at a light just last night, sitting in the left lane of a multi-lane highway. In the lane to my right stood a late model lexus IS300. The driver gave me the look. I know what he was thinking; "I'm going to kill that e430 with the sexy chrome headlight rings...show him who's boss."
Light turns green, Lexus man drops the hammer, BANG, off he goes, ultra kill! Lexus pulls on MB as if the E was standing still!

Actually, it was standing still. I was waiting to make a left turn.

Even if true, so what? It's still a solid rear axle Ford running around on a chassis that originated w/the 1978 Ford Fairmont--a fearsome performance machine if ever there was one. Speaking to this in a March 1993 article about the upcoming revision of the rustang, Car & Driver wrote the following:

Congratulations on your state-of-the-art machine. Lipstick on a pig and all that...it's not often that one has the opportunity to purchase a brand new antique!

Shoot, I see 30 year old Rustangs running tens at our local strip....but it's still a 30 year old Rustang, and I've also seen Honda Civics get into the tens, like this one:

And Honda actually releases a brand new chassis every five years or so, so the Civic has the added benefit of Honda reliability *and* a chassis that was designed in this century. :

If winning drag races was our only goal, we have a heckuva lot more money to spend on the problem than you do. For what anyone here paid for an AMG, we could buy all of your clunkers *and* an LS1 Camaro SS and throw a Gale Banks twin turbo motor in there with up to 1,000 horsepower...but even though there are only a handful of production cars that can beat ours, we're not buying them as drag racers, your jealous tantrum aside.

But of course, you realize this...you're only here to insult the owners of superior cars to yours of whom you're so extremely and obviously jealous.

And you still haven't answered my question: if you think we're wasting money on Mercedes when there are faster cars (not Mercedes, but faster cars) for less money available, then why is it that you (supposedly) bought a C Class when a Camry is more practical, more reliable, and less expensive to own and operate?

In other words, your own stupid argument is equally applicable to you, sparky. So for today's lesson, you get an "H" for hypocrisy.

But jealous people don't tend to think rationally....now do they?

Cool....i'm actually kinda proud the chassis remained for so long. Maybe good engineering? You're right Foxes are the preferrred stip car for tuners looking to break into the low #'s...not sure why, but they've always been successful.

Reasons for the C? Well I guess you could say I got caught up in the hot "sport sedan' segment....and i did/still do love the way the C class looks. I didn't consider the 3 series because theres just TOO DAMN many of them around. The IS300 was a big consideration, but just when I thought i was set on it MB released the Sport Sedan in 03. The C coupe is worse than the Aztec, I think. I always liked the way the C240 looked, but would never buy it due to the 168HP and ride. C320 also rode a bit too soft so it was out. E was to big, and didn't want a 2-door. Audi? no way....G35 is ugly IMO. Tested the 320SS and 230SS and didn't see much of a difference, so i went with the 230. I admit at the time I was fooled by the 3 pt. star. I did think MB made a quality vehicle like we read about from years past. 2 yrs into the lease and $1000's in warranty work proved me wrong. So I'm done with MB

I really might go with the new IS next year, the AWD is appealing, and the car looks about the right size. Then again if I do choose to go a bit larger maybe the ES330, or the AWD GS. I think the sport sedan segment is over-hyped, time for change for me.

Kinda rational don't ya think?

Lol...of all of the lame statements you've ever made, this one deserves a special reward.

So you're proud to be driving an antiquated relic with a 25 year old Ford Fairmont chassis and a live rear axle. Good for you.

Some of us, however, prefer slightly less-ancient designs. And can actually afford them.

You're not answering my question.

Remember, the issue here is your constantly coming in here and jealously badgering people with much more expensive, exclusive cars than yours, because as you stated you think it's "funny" that "lessor cars" can beat these big, bad AMGs, and cost less to do it....

So I pointed out, accurately, that there are "lessor" cars which hold more passengers and luggage, get better mileage, cost less to own and operate, are more reliable, etc. than your entry-level C Class.

Now then, keeping in mind that you seem to feel very strongly that it is a waste of money to buy a luxury automobile when a less expensive car does the same for less, why didn't you buy a Camry?

Or, more specifically, why did you buy a C240 instead of a Camry?

You say it's for sport? Fine. But for the money you spent on a C240, you could have gotten a faster sedan, like a Grand Prix GTP, a Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi EVO, Jetta VR6, etc....

All of these are sporty sedans, which are faster than your C240 and cost less.

Why didn't you get one of those?

Dodge, dodge, twist, twist...sorry, but the age-old technique of childish name calling and pero when you've been pinned won't work here. There is no comprehension issue on my part; there is a dodging issue, and possibly a comprehension issue, on your part.

Let's review:

1) you come in here and launch another of your jealous little anti-AMG tantrums, presumably because you can only afford a C230, and say how amusing you find it that some "lessor cars" can defeat the AMGs in straightline races;

2) since you drive a C230, which retails for over $30,000 and can easily be defeated in a straightline race by a V6 Camry and other "lessor" cars, I thought it rather hypocritical of you.

3) I asked you why you spent (or, in your parlance, wasted) all of that money on a C230, when there are several "lessor" cars available which will thrash it, are more reliable, less expensive to own and operate, etc.

4) you refuse to answer, becuase you know you are exposed as a hypocrite, and obviously, it's gotten under your skin a bit.

You say that it's "amusing" to you that people spend all of that money on AMGs when there are "lessor" cars which are faster? Well, what is very amusing to me is that you did the same thing, and are blatantly hypocritical enough to criticize others for doing it.

Answer the question. Why didn't you buy a "lessor" sedan. Why did you waste all of that money on a sport sedan when there are "lessor" sedans (Subaru WRX, Grand Prix GTP, EVO, etc.) which are much faster??

Answer the question.

Reasons for the C? Well I guess you could say I got caught up in the hot "sport sedan' segment....and i did/still do love the way the C class looks.
So I guess i bought on looks predominantly.
I even further clarified why I didn't chose other cars in the segment, the C coupe, and the 320SS.

See the answer to your question was in front of you all along.

No, you didn't. You said why you'd chosen it over other other sedans in the entry-level sport-luxury segment.

Unfortunately, this still doesn't explain in any way, shape, or form why you chose the slow C230 instead of the many faster, "lessor" cars which you could have purchased for thousands less.

Fine, fine, so you took other factors aside from speed into account when you wasted your money on a slower entry-level luxury car when you could have chosen to get an uglier, less prestegious car which nevertheless was faster in a straight line and saved thousands...so is it inconceivable to you that those of us who bought AMGs may have had other factors besides sheer straightline speed on our minds when we bought our cars?

improvz-- i think he did make it clear why he got the C

he got the C class becuase:

He thought it was reliable
He liked the looks
He thought it was the best car out of all the ones he WANTED to GET-you can give him the list of what cars he should have goten but thats not gona do anything-- i personaly dislike 75% of the cars you mention.
and he thought it was a safer car

.... read through the thoughts

remember this was in the PAST not present--so now he thinks diff

peace

If I had only 20k to spend on a car, getting something like a Honda Element 4wd and goin playin in the mtns and stuff, being safe in a flood, bein able to haul a dog around, bein avail to pu friends and family at the airport WITH their luggage, would make me THRILLED, which it does cause I own one.

For others, spending like 80K on a SLK55 with mods to go fast, go topless, have the most fun AND get parked up front at restaurants because of its appeal and rarity, would be make them DELIGHTED as well, as it does me, cause I own one of those too

People tend to buy what they can afford. If you are thinking about the other stuff you could be getting with the money you put toward a car, boy, you just aint makin enuf of the stuff.

For 100k my enjoyment is thru the f**kn roof and if I want something else that may make me happy, as well, I'll go out and buy that too. Doesn't have to be either or if you can afford it.
