04 E55 walks a Saleen Mustang
Just got back in from watching the Superbowl over at a mates house. In the way back I was cruising the highway about 60mph when I came across what looked like a hot mustang (it was pretty dark out there and hard to see, and the car was black). I cruised past it and another car at about 70mph and moved back into the outside lane. Then I saw him move to the inside and come at me, attempting a flyby - so I stomped it and I saw him move closer up to the side of me and as we accelerated he just barely caught my back quarter panel and I slowed started walking on him and then I had to back off as I approached traffic ahead. Looked down and we are at 130mph. He flew by and then he had to back off about a second later.
Then we tooled around through some traffic for a while, and all the time he was downshifting and accelerating hard. Hell that thing made some noise - very nice sounding!! Then we had one more quick run where we were basically lined up together probably at about 70mph and accelerated at more or less the same time, and I easily walked him. Then he pulled off at an exit and I returned to 65mph cruising through what was increasing traffic - only to pass a state trooper (fortunately we were in a 60mph zone and I was doing less than 70mph). But if the Saleen hadn't taken the exit, this might have been
- except the traffic was getting heavier so we might have been safe.
I don't know what was in this thing as I am not too familiar with the Saleen's, but I think it must have been one of their higher end cars. It looked like the back tires were like about 345s. It had two round exhausts in the center, and it had Saleen stamped into the back bumper. Not the current model Mustang, the last one. Could it have been the supercharged S351?

I'll take a guess and say it was probably a naturally aspirated S351. They run 13.3 in the 1/4 with severe traction problems off the line. The rear wheels were probably 315's, since wider rear wheels and tires are a Saleen option.
They sound very sweet with their Borla exhausts. There will always be naysayers, but I love the distinctive "voice" of the Mustangs. They sound very sweet and can be identified a mile away.
Nice run!!!!

nice run.
It all depends what model the Saleen was..was it the rounder model (94-98) or the more sharp edge one (99-04) ?
Either way, it's not too difficult for you to beat a Saleen..even the supercharged one since they only come with like 400hp at the crank.
Just watch out for the +03 Cobras that have swapped to a KB or Whipple Blower...they are all running no less than 500rwhp.
