Range Rover vs. Lightning
So today a friend and I took the Rover for a spin and as we're pulling out of the VONS shopping center, I see a blue ford pickup and instantly think "lightning...go for it!" so I turn my AC off, downshift to 3rd and ease into the accelerator eventually pinning it to the ground..next thing this guy is FLYING past me and he gets about 2 carlengths before I let up. I follow him into the left turning lane for round 2 and this time start in second, this time I couldnt get around him because the lane merged but I stay right behind him up to about 110 and then we get to a stop sign, I flash my beams and give a thumbs up..he flashes his hazards and does a massive burnout in my face, along with a thumbs up. WTF is in those trucks?!? I heard a whine come from it before he passed also... p.s...this is my first kill..or um...death so take it easy.

Do you have the 300hp or the 400hp s/c'ed?
In any case your range had no chance, he was clearly playing with you. I played with an HSE yesterday, blew him out of the water. ( =) ) Lightnings are fast trucks 5.4 liter monsters in there, on top of that they weigh 700lb less than RR's, im yet to play along with one. They are 1000lbs heavier than ml55's, and at his 380hp and 450tq, id give him a pretty good run.
either way fun run =)

im not positive, but i dont think any car you have listed will out-run that truck. people just buy those to drive like idiots! (everyone that i have seen)
i would like to see a video of the viper truck vs. the lightning if anyone has quick access to one...
when that lightning came out it had 380hp and the next year it was upped to quite a bit more...

also, really cheap to mod!
most of them are modded by now..
next time just don't try and enjoy your fine interior and your luxury options.
RR Sport is nice, but it no Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.

Technically since the Ford GT uses the same engine here is what the engine is capable of handling:

On top of it all....the Ligtning is rated to tow 7500 lbs.!! I almost bought one as my business truck but needed 4 wheel drive. My daily driver is a 2002 F-150 Supercrew Lariat w/ 5.4, towing package and 4 wheel drive. I did the SuperChip programer to firm the shifts and remove the speed limiter.

I owned a 99 Ford Lightning for a few years. Mods I had done were: PSP chip, PSP 6lb pulley (was boostin 20 lbs), PSP intake, electric fan, better plugs, hummmm what else... cant remember if I had anymore power mods.. Anyways I had some slicks on it and my best run was a 12.5 @ 114, so it was pretty quick!
Yes most are modded and let me tell you despite their weight they can hook up very well from a dead stop so dont let them fool you if you think they will be an easy kill from a light...

a few...
Yep, Lightnings are damn fast. Put a pulley and exhaust on there and you have a near 12 sec truck. For a few k more... you can get a new blower and really kill some fast cars.
I don't think it's the exact same engine as the Ford GT, I think it's just based on the same block but the Lightning is cast iron compared to the GTs which is aluminum.

LOL
I can guarentee you that it's not the same engine as is in the Ford GT....
The Lightning is quick, though -- very quick for a pickup truck.
Any RR wouldn't have a chance against it.....

Ya my mistake the engine was only derived from the lightning's engine not an exact copy. Still a fast GT though. I always amazes me how close those guys look to swerving off the track.

The Lightning was actually FASTER around the track than the 'Stang!
Too bad Ford chickened out on it's replacement. It had a 6 spd tranny (manual) and 500 HP!!
