Do SRT-4's Count
I just got back in the house from a night of some hard playing. There were plenty of cars to pick from but as usual all were scared to run. Once a race was set up the cars would NEED to be looked over with a pen light and a fine tooth comb. All in all we were out from 11:00-3:00 and had about five true races. The AMG on my car is like the badge from hell because out of about 50 cars there were no takers. I'm talking racing for fun, no money. I figured that I'm out of the house so I should make the best of it. The next race I was going to just invite myself. It was crazy because they treated my car like it ran 10's or something. The first race was with two SRT-4's. Those little things are fast. I had no idea. From a stop I never saw the cars until the end. About halfway through I glanced to the right and could see that I had him by about half a car. It felt good until I got an offer from a WRX wagon. I figured "it's a wagon" how fast could it be. To the starting line we went for a little more fun. I think I was a little too excited for the race because off the line I spun wheels for a good second and it was all down hill from there. I did close the gap a little but it was a lost cause. I asked the guy for another run and he declined. That was almost the end of my night but on the way home I came across my WRX friend again and he gave in. We started from about a 30mph roll each time and I pulled on him both times. The night ended with a thumbs up from the driver of the wagon and a lot of reasons from the SRT-4's as to why they lost.

haha good story....ya, i went out tonight and just about everyone avoided me. A GT mustang, 350Z, and a couple of other things. I ended up racing a Civic SI hatch and i think a Pontiac GTP (the supercharged one).......obviously, both got destroyed.
E55's definitely get their respect on the street. When I go out in my C32, most people don't even give me a chance. It took me 30 minutes one night to milk this one supra to race, and he finally gave in and was surprised when i pulled on him on.....it was BPU, but wasn't getting much traction though.
Was it a WRX wagon or an STI wagon ( i think they make STI wagons? )

20+ to list......
They do have STi wagons, but only offered in Japan from factory, but I know there are some wagons out there with STi hardware, so beware.

It was the WRX because I got a good view of it. He also dropped some money into it. I don't know what because everything is a big secret. It was all for fun. But I have a secret that would have allowed me to win the race if it were for money

There is a guy who owns a performance shop down here in Tucson that drives one of these wagons. Except, in addition, it has an uprgraded turbo, front mount intercooler, access port, and forged internals.....that thing moves

i must add how much i dislike SRT-4. Stock, they don't give me trouble. But when those things are modded (downpipe, exhaust, etc...) they can be quick. I raced one last year that was pulling on me a tiny bit on a roll.

I am referring to the W210 E55, not the W211. The W211 is an animal! Comparing the W210 to the W203 C55, it would be close. Actually, closer than I intiatially thought before doing a quick search. With equal drivers, the C55 should edge out ahead, granted its 250 lb weight advantage.

The reason I asked was because I was challenged by these two guys with SRT-4s at my town's car meet last summer. At the time the C55 only had a couple miles on it, so I told them to find me next year (no meets in the cold of chicago). I don't think they're serious modders though...one looked like he spray painted his rims black (a really shoddy job with...matte black?).

It is actually closer than one might presume. I too thought the C55 is a fair amount quicker, but after checking a few links, I realized that it would be close. Judging by Drag Times, the C55 runs low-mid 13's and traps at 105-108 mph. In Motor Trend's test, it managed a 13.2 @107 mph. Motor Trend also tested the W210 E55 and obtained a figure of 13.3 @ 107 mph. In some cases, the C55 would edge ahead. But, it is indeed a driver's race, judging by these figures.

I was about to jump in and correct your original statement....but you got it now. W210 E55 is almost 250 lbs heavier, but has almost 20 lbs of more torque. Yes, drivers race.

You know, I was wondering about the "acutal" power difference between the 349 hp 5.4 Litre and the 362 hp 5.4 Litre. Essentially the same motor with a different exhaust setup. I recall reading that they all made roughly the same power. Any dyno comparisons to support this blurb? Just curious.
