You cannot deny the fact that the car has 10x(if not more) the tire surface area to lay down alot more contact patch then the bike.

I'm wondering if a 750cc or a newer 1000cc bike would have done better?

What's your point?

I bet nobody knows a car weighs almost 10x that of a sportbike

And whats your sarcastic point supposed to be?

My point was that car can pull more G's on a racetrack then a bike can. Some bike guys will still not accept that as fact.On the typical american highway with long radius corners the bike would leave that car for dead.I bet everybody knows that......
FWIW,thats a '98 R1,carbureted with 130 stock rwhp
A new one has 160hp&weighs a few lbs less&handles much better. The acceleration of the newer bike might change the outcome of that race

My point was that I didn't understand why you stated something so obvious so I returned in kind.

However, your follow up makes much more sense and I agree with what you're saying.

However, don't forget that's a basic and outdated Carrera too.

Anyway, enjoy your 55 and your bike- that's a very fun combination

Ok,now I understand
Youd be surprised at some of the ridiculous statements/bench racing that I hear at the local bike hang-outs....newbies think their brand new sportbike is invincible&that no car could EVER come close to it in the corners.I thought that to when I was a dumb 16yr old with a brand new 1987 GSXR-750 twenty years ago

Well you knew what I meant haha.. I also had a 94 model which was about the same weight as yours.. it felt like 500 pounds.. ok fine 388+yourself.. there 500+ vs the newer bikes .. what 350ish max?? Thats why I was laughing when you said that.

Hmm look what I just found.. 87 GSXR-750 Weight = 443 with oil and gas , amazingly the 88 model was 504 and my 94 was 438. Just FYI

Yeah, that info is a bit misguided...
the MSO from my '87 stated 388 dry,add 5 gal of fuel(40lbs+/-) and 4.5 qts engine oil and you've just added 50 lbs;which puts it 438.Add some fork oil&it's right at 443 give or take...

The '94(which was water cooled) was alot heavier, actually the heaviest year before the complete re-design in '96.
The *dry weight* listed for the '94 is 438lbs,now add 50lbs for fuel&oil, another 20lbs for the H20&anti-freeze and your lookin at 508lbs
The weight you stated for the '88 is wet weight(with all fluids)
The same site listed your '94 as *dry weight*

I know everything(almost, lol) about gixxers, been ridin 'em for 20yrs and pwned at least 20 of them
heres a pic of my '05 topped of with 5 gallons of fuel on the scales at Englishtown NJ
If you've never been there before, pop on over to www.gixxer.com the best bike site on the net.I have the same screen name there too

Sweet!! Yeah, I figure those sites cant be trusted but I was too lazy to ask my friend who has a late 80s like yours. Wow, I always thought the late 80s gixxers were much heavier then my 500lb tank, lol, no wonder when I got on a newer R1 back then, they felt light as a feather hahaha.

Yes, I been on that site before but I dont ride anymore due to a back injury a year ago. But if I ever do get back on one, I be sure to head on over and take a refresher course

Sweet 05 btw very steathly looking, hehe 5 gallons huh, roadtrip

all the talk of old bikes reminds me of that old console game, Road Rash, where the big displacement bikes were real heavy.

Rwd Or Awd???

nevermind

quoted from the Porche website:

"At the center of the Carrera 4’s intelligent all-wheel drive is a viscous clutch that reads traction at all four corners and instantly transfers an additional 5 to 40 percent of the engine’s power to the front axle for maximum grip, even on changing road surfaces. The multiple-disc clutch consists of a series of interleaved plates. The space between these plates is filled with a high-viscosity silicone fluid. If the front and rear axles begin to rotate at different speeds, the frictional properties of the silicone fluid cause torque to be directed towards the plates that are rotating more slowly. At least 5 percent of drive torque is applied to the front wheels at all times. Under daily driving conditions, the average rear/front torque split is approximately 65/35, resulting in laser-true tracking at speed and unprecedented control through the tightest corners."

I wondered the exact same thing!!But didnt bring it up cuz I dont know enuff about this car to contest sombody elses opinion.I did notice that he went on the grass&started the tires spinning, and then lit 'em up on the pavement;maybe that played a role?
I have a '06 911 C4S&it will not spin the tires like that.I already tried&got real nasty axle hop&decided to quit while I was ahead

If that was a RWD car,he truly is a professional the way he slid that ***** round those corners

The license plate is the same throughout so I guess Jason Plato

To be honest though, I was hard pressed to ver tell my P-car was AWD apert from the rare occasions it rained. 95-5 split is a great compromise
