'96 C4 'vette falls to S500

Let me begin by saying that I am a 'vette fan having owned two in my life: a '67 big block 4 speed convertible and a '88 C4 convertible w/ a Ligenfelter 383. I was headed to the grocery store this afternoon to pick up a few things and found myself at a traffic light in a right lane that runs out and merges left after about a 1/4 mile. I chose that position to gain an advantage to move ahead when the light changed. As I pulled up I noticed a '95~96 C4 coupe to my left. Just in case I put the tranny in S and pulled it to 1st.

When the light turned green I pulled out strong but not all the way in. Half way accross the inter section I saw the nose of the 'vette lift and serious exhaust exit from the rear in my drivers door mirror...I nailed it and short shifted to 2nd at about 5800 RPM. I jumped the 'vette a full length at that point but he was still comming trying to cut me off. I hit 3rd at about 6000 and easily pulled left in front of the 'vette and lifted. He pulled to his left and coasted to my left as speeds slowed to more sane and legal levels. Windows came down and he said that he was surprised that I got him because he was all the way in it.I told him that these big cars are a lot quicker than most people realize and that I occasionally catch people in faster cars "napping".
He said that he was ready but felt like I was going to rule in the dig but if it was a long run that the 'vette would prevail. I told him that I agreed and to be safe. He waved off and we went our respective ways....and technology marches on.

That would depend on the year of the C4. There's a big difference between the 84 and a 96. An 84 (crossfire 205hp) won't put up much of a fight. If your lucky enough to cross a 96 6speed (LT4)you'll be watching tailights. The 85-91 are very quick out of the hole (L98) but suffer more on the top end. A 93-96 LT1 can be very quick also, especially if modified.

The ZR1 is another story. Not the quickest out of the hole but up top they scream.

I don't mean to bash you TommyGunn but it's going to take a lot more than a lightly modded w210 to even beat one (except for the 84) out of the hole. I've followed other posts of yours and see that you have a decent running car. Congrats! Have you ever run it down the strip before? If so, what were your time? Just curious.

Regards,

Eric

Note: This reply was not meant as a MB bashing event. I'm fully aware that there are o-too-many MB's here that are fully capable of delivering a whooping to all (stock of course) C4's.
