95 C36 Amg vs C43 Amg

Went from a dig to 120. I knew this guy in the c43 was in race mode. He got me by 1/2 car to 120! I'm surprised that we were so close considering the c43 has 302hp vs 268hp c36.

I don't know man...1995 C36 is rated about equal as the ML55 from 0-60 (6.4) I know they're underrated, but C43 is underrated as well. I'm not saying the C36 is slow by any means but its a bit hard to believe it would be dead even. Maybe he was in W mode because first time I raced my friends ML55 I was in W mode and we were dead even until about 100 and something.

I agree with AMGJared...from about 70 on you should have had a nice view of his license plate.

An old issue of Road and Track the 95 c36 ran 5.9 0-60 1/4 14.4. The c43 ran similar times. Its about quick as my 03 350Z which ran high 13s!

They weight the same but you're missing the HP + torque, very likely he was in 'w' mode.

Whatever is W mode? I ran a c43 with my 350Z and it was a close race like my c36. I want to run a c43 again

"W" is winter mode - car launchs from 2nd gear for extra traction in snow.

Amazing the difference between "W" and "S" mode. But none the less C36 is an excellent car.

wrong. the main reason is differential gearing, its 3.07 vs. 2.82. thats why they are virtually identical even though C36 has weight disadgantage and less power.

Starts in 2nd gear?! I would be 10 cars ahead from a stop!

+1

I'm not surprised to hear that it was that close. C43's were not that much faster than C36's.

It's mainly a driver's race, since the difference isn't extremely huge between the two.

268hp is more like 300hp. Way underrated. My 03 Z with minor boltons which is about 295hp and 200lbs lighter than the C36. Runs close times.

Which is funny because the ML55 runs 350z/ G35s. (stock)
I doubt the C36 is underrated, dyno it. But I honestly doubt it, the only underrated thing about that car is its actual 0-60. Mercedes tests their cars with full passengers and full baggage load.

Would you define test for me. Are you refering to 0-60 and 1/4 mile times? That makes no sense at all to me.

My 03 Z runs high 13s @101. I don't think the ML55s runs that fast.

Funny you say that, because I ran against both, (350z roll, G35 Dig) I took the 350z by 90 or so and the G35 by 80.

After driving the C36 and C43 back to back, I would say that there was not a ton of difference in terms of straight line performance from a dig. I didn't line them up obviously, but they were close. The '43 will edge slightly past 55 mph, and I presume walk away in excess of 100. The results of this race don't surprise me either.

All I could say is my C36 is a rare car with lux, performance daily driver. But for the price a payed for it was a steal. Luckily there was a clean one only couple miles from my house. Another one was 100miles away.
