The STi driver probably doesnt know how to drive. At least do a brake boost before going at it. I use to own an EVO 8 with turbo back exhaust, 22 psi boost, intercooler piping, tuned, cams, etc etc - came out to 330 awhp. I kept up with a 996 turbo, beat M3's, CLK55, C55's, from 80 on. At 130, you really see the car go slower and slower. This is why I drive a CLK55 amg now. V8 power!! Those 4 banger turbos are fun though. Extremely fun with cams. Cams are needed for those top gears.
So this is perfectly plausible, and in fact if the Scoobie kept right there with him, it sounds like he drove pretty well; if he'd have screwed up, the SLK would have left him...the two are that close.

WOW! Though it seems tough to believe, the cars are pretty evenlyy matched. From 0-60 the STi should pull very hard, but at highway speed and triple digit speeds the SLk has three advantages. First, the drag coefficent is much lower on the SLK than the Subaru; second, the boosted four cylinder engines lose tons of power up top. Last, I have heard that the Subaru suffers tons of power loss from the AWD setup.
depends on the model year of the subaru if its stock. and if its modded then even better.
subarus dont really lose all that much power loss through drivetrain
