100 Octane question.....

Do you guys really notice a difference when using 100 octane vs 93 octane? I use 100 octane once in a while since there's a Sunoco station 15 min away that has it. I like to think there's a difference the way the car runs with the 100, but I think it may be in my head. Any factual information or comparisons???

$7.49 per gallon, which is pretty reasonable now the 93 octane is over $3.

almost every single dyno you have seen posted here on MBworld that came from a 65/600 bi-turbo motor was running 100oct+ Also dont think for a second there arent variances in tuning and you need to know your car is running at its optimum, if its not producing the power it should you can easily send the ECU back to Renntech to get it reflashed for free. Do not rest on the data that you have been given by renntech or by what you have read here, dynoing your car is VERY important. Let me know if you nedd help finding a reputable dyno operator in your area.

In a turbo car, it allows you to crank up the boost without knock. In stock form you won't see any gains, as your ECU isn't programmed to take advantage of it. If you crank the boost, higher octane helps.

I once filled my tank up with 100...WASTE OF MONEY. Felt like a 10-15 hp gain but nothing special. As 'Cylinder Head' mentioned, theres no advantage in stock form.

Now if you're running more boost, it might be a different story?? We'll find out this weekend.....im only filling up 1/2 this time

I would think higher boost would require high octane for optimal output? Some of those heavily modified imports (Supras, evos etc.) put out an extra 50-80 whp just by going from pump to race.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
It really depends on HOW MUCH boost you're talking about. Most MB's won't break 18psi in either turbo or supercharged form, but the highest tuned examples could benefit from the higher octane. It burns hotter and faster and ignites at higher temps, which is synergistic with high boost. I could run my Sup at 35psi on C16 and make some INSANE power, but I'd be chattering my teeth with worry regardless of the fact that the motor is practically invincible.

BMW
we sell VP race fuel where i work. when i had my old bmw 325, that car absolutely LOVED VP's MS100 which was 100 octane, but with MTBE. now that MTBE additive is illegal in NY, VP's MSE100 blend sucks. i've tried it in the e with absolutely no power gains felt. of course, it's a different ball game with higher cylinder pressures from fi.

Thanks for your input, however I don't understand what you're saying. Please don't be offended, but can you explain what your abbreviations mean as well??????

a modern stock naturally aspirated car will see no benefits from using 100 octane gas. the only thing that's going to go faster is your bank account
