Well, we lined 'em up, counted down 3-2-1-, and flogged 'em. The verdict is in: MB by a nose. He wanted to run 'em and I obliged. It was pretty close but I nosed out in front coming out of the hole, before his boost was up, and stayed there. Still, it's a dayem quick 2.0L. Just proves the age old adage; "There's no replacement for displacement," although forced induction makes a pretty damn good case.

I love your Bremmas too E.

I saw the pics of your stock wheels vs the Bremmas, and there's such a HUGE difference.

I think this little race is a pretty good testament to the underrated nature of the C350's performance. MB advertises 268 HP at the crank and 0 to 60 times of 6.0 seconds. But the magazine's tests find that it will more frequently do 5.5 to 5.7 seconds 0 to 60. And here's mine pulling out in front of a car rated at 5.4 and probably driven by the average Joe to about 5.5 or 5.6 seconds. At 3500 lbs. curb weight for the automatic, that's 3700 lbs. with me in it. Add another 100 lbs. for fuel and junk and you have a 3800 lb. car doing 5.7 and 14.1 @ 100. For a 3800 lb. car to do all that it needs 316 hp at the crank (which is 268 at the rear wheels). So I agree, based on my test yesterday, with others here who have said that they feel the M272 motor in the c-class is underrated. The MB numbers are more like RW numbers than bhp numbers.

A number of MB motors are conservatively rated. The M120 V12, the M119 V8 (especially the one in the SL60), the newer M275 V12's and so on. Not to knock the recent SOHC 3V per cylinder setups, for they were more efficient and easier to maintain than their predecessors, but I am glad MB is going back to a DOHC 4V per cylinder setup. It has been done in the new 6 and 8 cylinder variants. I'm sure it will be used in their next generation V12 as well.
