Motorcyclist killed while apparently drag-racing in Riverdale
September 28, 2007
An off-duty Chicago police officer witnessed a Corvette and a motorcycle drag racing at nearly 100 mph before a fatal crash Thursday night in a heavily wooded area in south suburban Riverdale.
About 7:19 p.m., Riverdale police were dispatched to the corner of 131st and South Halsted streets and found the motorcycle driver, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 30-year-old Bernard Pulliam, lying face down on the ground, unresponsive, according to Riverdale Police Chief Greg Baker.
An off-duty Chicago police officer who witnessesd the accident said the motorcycle and a Corvette were drag-racing from 138th and Halsted “in excess of 100 mph,’’ Baker said.
The motorcycle was in the left lane and the Corvette in the right, and when they approached 131st, the motorcycle struck the rear of an SUV, which was also traveling north on Halsted, the chief said.
After the motorcycle slammed into it, the SUV left the roadway and struck a light pole on the side of the road. It’s female driver and passengers were not hospitalized.
“As protocol, the SUV driver was asked and volunteered to submit to chemical testing that revealed no alcohol in the driver’s system," Baker said. Police do not suspect drug use.
The road was dry and it was not raining when the crash occurred.
No citations or charges are expected against the driver of the SUV, Baker said.

I copy/pasted this from 1 of the Vette forums, for some reason the link the OP made isn't working.

Yes, there is a time and a place for street racing; when you do it on crowded streets, someone can possibly end up getting hurt or killed, thats OK if it is the street racer becasue they made that choice and have to deal with the consequences, but when you put innocent people at risk, that is wrong. Not saying I will judge people that do it, but realize there may be grave consequences.
