C230 vs Touareg V8

So if you don't know about the M271 hose recall, you should have your hose replaced...Dealer is doing it free of charge.

Anyways I raced a 2005 Touareg V8 twice, from a Standstill. Lost both times, first by about a car lenght, the next by a lot more.

I had read the specs on both cars, and clearly the c230 is faster in 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

It wasnt until I realized that this "hose" problem was causing my car to lose power, and waste gas...The hose is connected to the supercharger.

My rpms would revv way to high for the slow movement the car was doing...

I got the hose fixed last week, and wow what a difference, power is much better, and gas mileage has improved significantly...

I want a rematch with the touareg...

any of you guys ever race one?

Time to go out and find another one to race. Just be sure to avoid the V10 TDI.

True, I think the TDI has similar specs as the V8 the only difference is diesel.

Big difference in Torque!

4.2L V8 - 350 hp and 324 lb-ft of torque.
5.0L V10 Turbo TDI - 310 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque

Correct, you are right but I meant 0-60mph times

Motortrend tests the V10 at 6.3s and 7.9s for the V8.

The V10 TDI delivers a mountain of torque. Wouldn't be too difficult to extract another 100 ft-lbs either. You could have some fun in the snow with that thing.

V10 hits 60 far quicker in all tests.

The reason I mention the V8 and V10 has similar 0-60 spec because I saw it from the Volkswagon website specifications.

http://www.vw.com/touareg/completespecs/en/us/

I guess VW is inaccurate

Yep, the big TDi hits 60 in the sixes without fail. The V8 never breaks sevens.

A bonus for those who shell out the cash for the oil burner.

I cannot believe that the Toureg V8 is so painfully slow. How much does the thing weigh? All that power and it doesn't move anywhere.

If weights are equal, and the horsepower ratings are accurate. The V8 gasser should be quicker than the diesel. Assuming gearing is optimal for both versions.

I think VW underrates their diesel. Or, overrates their gasser.

Horsepower is not substantial from a standstill. If one is to compare the 0-60 times between two sub-models, the torque rating is where to start. The diesel makes an additional 200+ ft-lbs over its petrol counterpart, much earlier in the powerband as well. With AWD and enough mass to plant it to the ground, the TDI could surprise a few at the stoplight.

You know, I remember the ML350 we had. On paper, it wasn't impressive off the line. But driving it around, that thing hauled, whether it be off the line, plowing through snow, or doing a little AWD power slide. Maybe I had a "strong" one from the factory?

Even the SL feels much quicker than both the magazine tests and factory ratings credit it. This forum alone is packed with jackhammers of street cars, yet every day roads do not grant these cars the freedom to perform like they were engineered to.

Hmm...the Touareg I "raced" was a 2005, with the 4.2 L, 310hp engine...

Newer Tore-up-rags have more hp...

Still I'd never get one....struggling to achieve 15 mpg? I don't think so...

I use to own a C230 back in the day. I have a 08 V8 Touareg now and it'll handle a C230 no problem. I'm not too sure a C230 is really built for streat racing. For a heavy beast the Touareg does well for itself.

Yeah, the C230 isn't made for off the line racing, especially since 1st gear is so short. And in this thread I'm referring to the 2005 Touareg v8 with 310hp, not the 2008 which has 350hp. I think the newer Touaregs look way better than the previous models.
