Volvo V70 wanted to race.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this. But anyway, I was at a light where two lanes become one about 300 feet past the intersection.
On the left, a guy in the V70 wagon with AWD shoots up and starts gunning and inching forward before the light changed, and looking over at me with an expression like "I'm going to hit the merge first buddy".
So the light changes and off we go. I took the merge by 4 lengths.

I don't follow Volvos at all, so out of curiosity, I looked it up. The V70 is supposed to be a 300hp rocket (according to the article). Are they over-inflating their brochure information?

That makes sense. I hope the guy realized he needs to go get that "R" off Ebay.

Yeah, watch out for the "R" Volvos, they're pretty quick. Easy to tune I hear as well.

Well done mod

Stock the R is not quick compared to say the E46 M3 or B6/7 S4. They only have a 2.3t and are hampered by AWD. This capacity hurts them at high speeds like STi's and Evos. Look up the figures they put down and you 'll see. Maybe chipped they're better.

IMO, Brenton got a legit kill. His E430 is likely faster, if more boatlike in the corners.

Stock V70R puts out 300hp/295tq, I5 2.5T with Haldex. Depends if it is a stick shift or automatic. Stick shift specs say 5.6 to 60, not bad for a wagon. Not sure about chipped specs.

They fall flat on their face above 60 though, even the stick versions. I've ran a couple and also seen the magazine stats. Closer to E46 330i in real world, not the E46 M3

I upgraded my entire suspension to E55-level. So it is quite less of a boat than when I bought it.

2006 Mercedes C55 AMG
I've had 2 S60R cars and above 80 they eat up pavement. They do not fall flat on their face. From 2004-2006 1-2 were torque limited so they aren't the fastest from 0-60.

I would agree if you were talking about a stck Evo,or STi.

Modded they can hit 11's no problem trapping over 120mph.

Although not exactly E46 territory, I wouldn't go to say that. Here a posted time of one with only an exhaust. Traps in the range of CLK500 so it has some pout up top.

Fair point, good link. Maybe that was a quick one though. Top Gear had it way behind the B6 S4 up top, and they arent that quick on the hwy.

ProjC55- the nicely modded Evos/Stis are a threat no doubt. Certainly didn't mean to dismiss them.

Could very well be a quick one, only a few recorded runs on that site. I was surprised when I found out the B6 wasn't quite as fast up top. Can't wait to see the new B7 S4 out though. The earlier reports I read indicated Audi was reverting back to the TT V6 setup, but one I read more recently is that it will be a supercharged V6 instead. I assume this to be a typo however; given than many German automakers are resorting to turbocharging to improve emissions, it is odd that Audi is going the route of the more gas-guzzling FI setup. Plus, I'm sure many would rather see the TT, hinting back to the B5 days of tunability.
