W208CLK55 vs. E46 M3

late last night, somewhere in mexico, i was driving, minding my own business. All of a sudden a see some bright headlights behind me, and a modded M3 zooms past me. I could see an exhaust, wheels, some time of suspension, and it sounded like it had an intake as well. It was late, and I didn't want to punch it....however, the next light turned red and we were both lined up. I heard him revving and when the light turned green, he launched.....It was then I decided to punch it. after my car shifted into second, I pretty much was even w/ him. When my car shifted into 3rd, i was already a car in front of him and kept on pulling.

BY chance, we both got stuck at the next light. This time i decided to shift down to 1st. I didn't give him a head start this time, as I punched it as soon as the light turned green. I was already 2 cars in front of him as I shifted into 3rd.

I thought the E46 M3's were a bit faster than that. After the widebody conversion and all my stereo crap, i really thought that the M3 would give me a run for my money, or even spank me. OH well.....

AMGs will almost always spank M cars from a dig. Low down tq and big capacity V8s really get things rolling the minute you stomp plus an auto is far easier to launch. From a roll you have your "run for your money" with the W208/W209 AMG and the E46 M3 very closely matched as regards the upper echelons of straight line speed.

Really? Every roll race I've seen between the two, the CLK55 always walks the M3.

Really. By looking at the power to weight ratios and gearing advantage of the 6-speed you will see these roll results are much more dependent of starting RPM (read driver) for the M3.

Additionally, the reality is your more likely to see M3s weighed down by fugly 20" aftermarket rims and air-brake effect spoliers.

Same here. Down low, up high, always the same results for moi when I ran them, well up into triple digits when I was in Mexico. M3 has 333 horsepower vs CLK's 349 (same motor as E55 and S/CL55, but underrated for marketing, the 342 number is crap), and with weight and aerodynamics same for both cars, CLK's 5% more horsepower wins up top, torque wins down low...badda bop, badda bing, CLK wins.

great kill. BMW's have always been about handling around the track while mercedes have been about the straightline speed at least when your comparing the two.

Who knows, maybe the M3 would catch up over 150......but if someone is still racing at those speeds, then they're a Darwin Award waiting to happen.

Would never and could never happen. I murder them from a roll,a dig, topend past 150mph,you name it! Thank God Darwin was not around with his law.

Anyway,E46 M3 will never run with a CLK55 on the hwy, stck for stck.
