Hey Vic, which one of your 2 cars are faster up top....Blood clot (great nickname) or Orca? I also think you know the guy I ran, Enrique from the Bay Area. He drives a silver 2001 modded 996TT. I believe your name came up once when we were bs'ing after the runs. Really nice guy!
Its kind of close- the GT-R has been opened up alot but the gearing is not normally set up for higher speeds along with the AWD DT loss. The GT570 package has helped sizeably.

The 997TT is a tip and has the same tranny that the 600 BiTurbo Benzes have along with (I think) the 65's; the bulletproof 5 speed. The Turbo is modded so it moves much better than stock but the AWD and auto slush box slow it down. Based on the butt dyno, the GT-R is the faster car up top.

Nice, you ran Enrique! I didnt read the results earlier, what happened?

We did roll on races from 60-160, 80-170, and 20-150 ish. I was fortunate enough to get him in all three races. From the 60 and 80 pulls I got him from 3-5 car lengths and the 20 one didn't really count. It was a bad range for his car. We both knew I had the edge with the power I'm putting down but he was still gamed. He's definitely a true car enthusiast and earned my respect. Up to this date he has never lost to a E55 which made feel like my car was fast....

The true fun came afterwords, he gave me a ride through the twisties and holy ****!!!! We hit speeds through the mountain roads that would make most crap on themselves....up to 160 mph .

He is a nut--- I dont think he is modded or slightly modded except exhaust???? Having owned a Stage 3 996TT and a pretty modded up E55; Id still take the 55 in straight line rolls. Stock ones are slower compared to E55's IMO so a modded E55 would eat him alive especially one like yours. But incorporate the twisties and things change. With that being said, be very very afraid of heavily modded 996TT's they destroy most cars in the 60-130 measurement which I find most important.

He had a ECU box tune (not a custom tune), exhaust (straight pipes), and something else....not sure what stage it is. He mentioned that he raced a modded M6 and beat it by a 1 1/2 car lengths. Who knows, it was still a blast. I'm trying to line up a race with the same modded M6, then we'll see. My car is definitely running strong and still needs to prove itself at the track. Time will tell.

Yeah....Once he gets he custom tune he'll be in the high 400's. I believe he mentioned that he's low to mid 400's right now. I actually saw what a heavily modded 996TT will do at Famoso (10.8)!!!

Vic, what does a modded stage 3 996TT have?

My interpretation is as follows but others may think its less or more:

Upgraded Turbos
ECU
Exhaust
Diverter Valves

Would a stage 2 be less the turbos? I was thinking that he was a stage 2 because he definitely didn't have the turbos.

I'll definitely give you guys a call on my next trip down to LA. It seems that there are way more guys willing to play in Mexico than here. I guess Mexico is too far for some Norcal boys.....

What's the best way to measure 60-130. It seems most go full throttle before 60 to get a full run at it....is that the way? I initially thought you cruise at 60 than go, I'm not sure now.

The pic of the red Viper is just a Gen III with a ghetto wing trying to look like a Gen IV ACR. I'll bet you spanked one of those to.

Didn't say I don't understand. Sometimes I'll read a post quickly and not look at sig to see if a car is modded or not.Never understood the point of comparing stock vs non-stock cars.
Last week had a Vette owner tell me he would beat my 63 in the quarter. That he ran high 11's. Well he has exhaust work, intake, CPU etc. I ran 12.1 stock...so yeah..he better beat me with all those mods. Just saying it is better to compare apples to apples..that's all!!

I know what you mean, I do the same thing sometimes... You should race him anyways and get it on film. Anything can happen on the street so GL!

This was not meant for comparison. Just wanted to share tales of my street encounters with vipers.

That sounds good!

You would think that racers get the car accelerating before and start the vbox at 60mph and measure how long it takes to get to 130mph.

Vic: What's the official word on how to start 60-130mph runs?

from what Ive read on 6speed, its a full run from probably 40 to gain speed, gearing and the amount of shifts do matter. I think some cars will start in 3rd or 2nd at 60 but most would 3rd since 2nd would run out room not too much past 60 mph. Its definitely not a 60 cruising speed and then mash though...

I did a run cruising at 60 then hammering it. My tires broke loose big time and it took me 2 seconds to go from 60 to 70..... My overall time doing it this way was 9.2 and some change . I planned on doing it again but I decided against it after seeing Mr. policeman on the other side as I was slowing down, thank god for the cement divider. I would have to think that I would have a much better time accelerating from 40 and not losing traction.

How does this time sound Vic...pretty slow? Our cars definitely start slowing as the speeds progress. I shifted twice during the run, that 2-3 shifts needs to be quicker.

9.2 seems a little high for the amount of power you make... and yes the drag will slow you down as your speeds increase.

Check this thread at 6Speedonline:

Yeah, 9.2 does seem high but I don't think it's very accurate due to traction issue and not hitting 60 at full throttle. I'm sure that number will quite a bit lower when done the way most are doing it. Our cars just aren't geared for those type of speeds. I believe I could get into the high 7's low 8's.

The next time I give it a try I'll make sure to hit it full on throttle. I'll also see how it compares when I run against the modded M6.

I did see some of the 60-130 times on 6speedonline....4.5's !!!! Those damn P-cars are fricken fast when highly modded.

Maybe your car has so much power it breaks loose at 60? My car feels good from 60-130mph. Any higher and it shifts to 4th and That is exactly where the E60 M5's for example start pulling hard. I proffer 0-100mph and twice on sundays.

I think you will get some much better times. Try it again from a 20mph roll and start the clock at 60. Your car should start pulling like a freight train by then.

for the record I'm not doubting your story, but my guess is the guy is inflating his numbers. especially common among owners of domestics and would explain the results, Vipers are light and with all that displacement one with 518whp would whoop your E55...even the 65-series cars

Ok thanks for the clarification. I thought they made a 550 version right before the current 600hp version. I dunno he seemed like an enthusiast and was really cool. He did woop me. He pulled away immediately and left me in the dust. Even with my best start and wide open road he would have still pulled on me.

On a side note... My buddy's vette feels like a bat out of hell. When he raced the same red viper above He was making a lazy 560whp and walked him pretty good. Back when me and the TT vette raced, he destroyed me even when his car wasn't running at 100%. Now it is and makes quite a bit and the power comes on strong.

Thanks Max. Just for reference a C6 Z06 seems to be at high 7's and low 8's...from what I've seen. I could be wrong though.

I think that is close--- stock C6 Z06's are probably in the higher 8's or even 9's but that is just an educated guess.

With your 5 speed tranny I wonder about a sub 8 second run...in your car...

Today the roads in Mexico were clean (Cinco de Mayo Eve) and I ran the GT-R from about 60 all the way to 181 on a run I normally use with my P car and M Six... (Max it was after the Irvine Mexican Blvd on ramp on Mexico Highway 133) the car was pulling very strong up top except I was nearing my shift point in my last gear at 181. I had a lot of road left too so Im thinking this car (with the GT570) has now bridged the gap that I wanted so long; a dig beast that has high speed capabilities. Oh I shot flames at 139 and 162 mph....

Sounds refreshing Vic. I will be heading over to a cantina near vista de Jeffrey for some cervesa's and mamacita's tonight.

First off congrats on those times, I posted in the W211 forum.

With the 128mph you are making some serious power so ... yes you should be under 8
