04 CLK55 vs 07 S550
I returning to the office this afternoon on Memorial (Mexico, TX) and I see a 2007 S550 with chrome aftermarket rims (I figure that it has to be someone a little younger). He launches from the lights kind of aggressively but no overly so. I hang back a little. At one of the lights, I lay on the throttle to see if he wants to play but he doesn’t take the bait but continues on his semi aggressive pace (15-20 over). Memorial opens up from a 35 zone to a 50 at Detering (again Mexico, TX). I get stuck behind a Budweiser van in the left hand lane and the S550 nails the throttle in the middle lane. I quickly get behind him, reel him in and walk him fairly easily (I had traction control off; 2nd gear start). I turned it off at around 110. I thought the S550 would be more of a challenge considering the 5.5 383 hp V8 vs. my 5.4 362 hp + top down + baby seat. I have a feeling the other driver backed off the throttle at a certain point considering the gap (bus lengths). Not a great kill but fun nonetheless. I don’t need my afternoon coffee. S550 weight: 4270 lbs + probably heavy chrome rims
CLK55 weight: 3960 lbs + baby seat
Different of probably at least 350+lbs depending on rims, maybe 400.
Not entirely surprised by the outcome. Nice run either way! And obviously don't race with a baby in the baby seat.
