Got Smoked

I was waiting at a red light on PCH, light turned green and as I started to accelerate, a black ford truck made a quick right in front of me and started to merge (wanted to get in front of me). I floored it and I guess so did he, he dusted me by two truck lengths, I changed lanes and continued to floor it to absolutely no avail. I ended up blowing by him (he wasn't even trying). He then decided to catch me, which he did in the blink of an eye. It was a total joke and I was completely embarrassed. I drive a stock clk 320, I don't know much about Ford trucks but it wasn't an F150 or anything like that. It was mid-sized, black with red lettering. It was a great looking truck and obviously high performance. Does Ford make a high performance truck?

Oh, by the way this is my second benz. Next time around I'm either buying an AMG or looking into another make, benzes are just to soft for my taste.

Mercedes C200K Coupe
LOOOOOOOOOOL... and you have a face to show it around here?

I drive a C200K coupe... last week a girl driving C200 sedan killed me big time at the "love street".

So, I took my car to the garage and told them to screw it...
now, I lost all respect I had to my car...

I'd rather drive a camry from now on.

umm. . . . although I love my 208, I leased it and I sure as the hell am not going to put any money into it (Kleeman). I'm going to ride out the lease and buy a true performer next time around.

On another note, I went to look at the Maserati covertible and was very disappointed. I don't know why but it didn't do any thing for me, the SL55 sitting next to it was a different story all together, what a beauty.

Sounds like the Harley Davidson Ford truck.

The CLK V8s are pretty good. You can take out a Ford truck with those guys...you can even take out a Mustang, of course, I wouldn't recommend street racing, it's very dangerous.

Anyway… to make you feel better (cuz I’ve been in ur place many times before).
Mercedes is not a racing car. it’s a performance luxury car.

Most American cars are so strong in acceleration. Meaning most of American sports car would kick Mercedes a** during takeoffs.

BUT… Only in takeoffs. Maybe his car can accelerate from 0-100Km/h faster than yours. But your car is controllable at speeds go up to 240Km. while his car probably wont exceed 160Km/h.

Lets say you want to race with him…
You can drive at a speed of 180Km/h EASILY. You can do it with only one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding ur mobile phone and talking!!

While the other guy will be in his tuck holding the steering wheel in his both hands spinning it left and right trying to keep the wheels straight. Not to mention how his truck (or even car) is shaking!!!

darkfact, thank you for reminding me why I purchased an MB. You are absloutely correct. A couple of months ago I was cruising at 115mph on the freeway, driving with one hand and changing my cd selection. The car was very stable and quiet, it was truly a pleasure.

On another note, how do you like your x-type?

Mercedes C200K Coupe
Its mom's car :p

well, I'm a bit tall (180cm :p) so the most important thing to me is to be comfortable while I'm sitting in the car. I didn't like the x-type because, unlike my coupe, the seats are a bit high and the gas and brake is right under my foot, I'm used on it to be in front of it...
and the steering wheel is also annoying a little bit.

but the ride is smooth. the gear changing is smoother than my coupe. on wet days it doesn't skid much like the coupe during takeoffs. its also a little bit higher from the front. so you don't have to slow too much when you come to a pothole (here we have a lot of them in busy streets and in front of schools. so it gets really annoying in low cars.)

I believe it was a Ford SVT Lightning. http://www.svt.ford.com with 5.4L V8 Supercharge engine. Rated at 380 hp and 450 lb/ft torque, the acceleration is unbelievable (I did ride in one once). Maybe the CLK 55 AMG will have a chance.

Those S4s are actually not that fast stock... I kill them all the time in my 4.2 liter A6 and I'm only running 320 hp and 320 lb/ft torque. The new S4 should be significantly faster.

Thanks for the link, yes you are correct it was an SVT, I realized once I looked at the 360 view (rear) , it actually was an 01 which runs 0-60 in 5.8. Now I don't feel so bad.

Cool Ford trucks?

Don't fret about being smoked by an SVT Lightning as I have seen some locally running 12.6 ET's with just some minor tuning. I saw one today at the track and I believe he ran 11.6 (slicks and gearing no doubt).

Actually, 6-speed S4's *are* pretty quick:

If you're willing to subject the awd drivetrain to a clutch-drop launch, they can nail a 5.5 second 0-60 run, and all of the road tests for them were in the 14.1-14.2 range. I'd say that you either came up against tiptronic versions, or 6-speed drivers who didn't drive well, because it is a faster car than the A6 4.2 if driven well.

Talking CLK55 AMG will not only have a chance, it will kick Lightning booty.

Stock, the Lightnings run a 13.9 or so, so a CLK55 should be able to pull it by about four or five carlengths in a 1/4 mi. race. I have proven this through experimentation.

But you can mod those Lightnings with pulley changes, etc., and get them significantly faster than stock. I've seen them run in the 12s at the local strip.
