M3 and GTO

I don’t race on the public road, but sometimes I like to get on it for sort distance just to see what other car got, I am not against it, in fact I like to read or watch them, but I just don’t do it, let say I am more of speed up after red light for a second or two kind of guy.
Few weeks ago I was going to work driving my CL and this kid came along driving a
new M3, top down and loud music, he was driving like a maniac, cutting everyone off.and what not, we got to a red light few cars front of both of us, after the light went green, we both change lanes and by the time no car was front of us we both were doing around 30, 35 and we both floored it, I was surprised to see I got ahead by at least one car and kept pulling away, by then I let go and slow down.
here is another story, last night I was driving my CLK, I noticed a car kind of tailgating me, I didn’t know what it was, we stop at red light side by side and saw it was a Pontiac GTO, when the light went green we took off and he could keep up only for fraction of a second, and that was it.
Now here is my question, I know that GTOs are fast but they are not a match for AMGs, but I still don’t know what was the deal with the M3, those cars are fast as hell, and I know for sure the driver was pushing his car, so is there really that difference between the two, CL55 and M3?

whether a E9X or E46 M3, both need to be in the lowest gear possible to get acceleration - torque is down, so if he wasn't in the powerband, you have no problem pulling

Was the GTO the 6.0 liter (with hood scoops and dual exhaust) or the 5.5 liter (with smooth hood and double exaust both on same side)? Just curious. The 6.0 liter version is actually pretty quick. My C32 will walk on a well driven E46 M3 but I have yet to play with the newer V8 model. I really doubt that I could take one of those unless the driver was a dork.

What is the power output on a CLK55? Does it have the same n/a V8 as the C55?

its actually a 6.0 liter (LS2 motor) and a 5.7 liter (LS1 motor), not a 5.5 liter.

a stock c32 shouldnt have a problem with a LS1 GTO since they are heavy. a stock C32 vs stock LS2 GTO may be different.

i know that my modded C32 has pulled on a full bolt on LS2 GTO with gears....those things are heavy lol.

Ive raced two bolt on LS2 GTO's, one got trounced by me and a e92 M3. The other, the kid claimed 470rwhp, I still walked him after missing 3rd gear. They really aren't fast, their weight really makes them slow.

I dont know what kind of GTO was it, but for sure didnt have any scoops, CLK55 I think it should have around 340 HP.
