Heh, am I the only one who has had his SL63 re-mapped, I can understand
why people don't have it done, $2000 to tune an engine that doesn't have
a supercharger or turbo sounds like an act of folly.![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
But I still went ahead knowing that I probably wouldn't feel a difference.
However after it was done we went out on a test drive ( 2 up ) and straight away I could fell the extra power, even more torque. Later that night I took it to my favorite test road and where it only made 124 mph the night before
it measured 130
, more than once. ( measuring speed between two points)
I then added some K&N's and switched off the a/c. The only problem you might have is when you take it for service they could accidentally wipe it when plugging in diagnostic, however the company will come and re-map it again for only 100 bucks. I urge SL63 drivers to have it done, there must be people in the States who do it.

SL vs beemer
A stock SL63 vs the 335i with the mods is a pretty good race. I'm not surprised that the 335 passed him. The SL is just soooo heavy by comparison. That weight kills the acceleration. The SL's are also geared very tall which again hurts acceleration but allows them to go autobahn burning at triple digits all day long. They tend to pull better on top end but by then the race is over, lol.

Most big engine cars have high axle gearing for polution and mileage, however
it doesn't affect the well sorted gearbox ratios as in the 63, I am afraid the only thing letting the 63 down ( now mines re-mapped it doesn't) is the weight. But having said that I still say that there is nothing between a stock SL55 and a SL63, so why the fuss they are equally heavy!

Charger SRT-8
There are a few exceptions and I suspect traction is another consideration. The AWD Porsche Panamera has such aggressive gearing it's in 3rd before 60mph with the 7spd DCT. Hence it's high-11sec ETs.
Pretty amazing.

Horrible on a long run though.
