Well was driving to the city tonitee, just washed the car in mexico and was heading to the city and was in no rush esp with the cold weather and i still have summer only tires on, and all the salt!

A benz comes flying to my rear bumper, im good at headlight guessing of brand but i thought instantly it was a slk350 or 300, and i just continued on my way, but the tailgating got annyoing so i changed lanes.
The benz then came next to me and gave a hefty amount of throttle letting me hear a healthy/loud V8 rumble. That got my attention!!!
I look over and its a SL63, all black with DARK tints, and blue headlights, 8k HIDs probably.

ok, im guessing he wants to play? he does the side by side heavy throttle movement about twice again, ok so i pulled up behind him as my lane was getting slow, and he started to get agressive with the throttle and tailgating the guy in front of him. I see there is nothing but highway in front of that car and as soon as the SL63 gets some room from the car to his left, he is going to open her up, you can just tell.

I engaged DTC traction, and downshift into 3rd gear, getting ready to go right after him.

Lane opens he goes WOT, and i follow, he was about a car length ahead at the least, and i am right behind him, i see that he isnt pulling away and i begin to close the gap, i switch over to the far lane now and im gaining, steady creep, i get side by side and pull half a car to a car length and shut it down at about 140 or so mph.

Was fun 1am run to have, he wasnt much of a good sport and he just left his own way and getting side by side with me but its all good it was fun to find a SL63 show some power.

Car is gorgeous and the exhaust note is justt incredible. Thought it would be a bit faster than that though.

E92 335i w/ pump 93 octane, no meth, no race gas. K&N filter, Golf tee exhaust and am running JB3 1.4 with generation 3 board on Map 7. (latest software and hardware out)

I was alone and i couldnt tell if he was aswell. Sorry for the long read, enjoy.. was fun.

 

Nice run. I assume you're a 6M? I understand they are more aggressively geared in the triple digits.

Did you engage or disengage DCT?

Can anyone contribute what the gearing is on the SL63, especially above 120mph?

 

I engaged DTC, dynamic traction control, which will give me a little slip and cut it if things get a lil out of hand. But it seemed i didnt really need it anyways.

I am actually 6AT, which holds a good amount of boost throughout the shift compared to 6MT, whcih until late, not only didnt hold boost, but bogged for a split second when the next gear was engaged and boost came back and overshot its target for a second, this created the bog.( but now the jb3 1.4 software has address this for 6mt, auto holding a specific amount of boost through a fast shift and not bogging when the next gear is selected)

I am gonna guess we started maybe around anywhere from 40-55mph.

 

Gotcha, good info thanks. I read "E92" and for some reason glossed over the 335i part, thinking it was an M3. Not sure why. No DCT in the 335i anyway.

Are you sure the sl63 was going full throttle ?? Lolll Jkkk. Good run! SL63 is a gorgeous car but I think its way too overpriced. I wish it was a little quicker. I had no problem beating 1 with my stock e55.

 

They're gorgeous, but not that fast. You need the torque of the 55k to get that fat a$$ moving.

I got a chance to drive a 335 loaner when the M5 was down for a new throttle actuator. Great car, a liiiittle to small for me (I'm not a big guy, just used to more space), but a lot of fun to drive. The stock all-season tires blew, however.

 

My SL63 has been re mapped with K & N filters, believe me it's a big improvement, should have around 560+.
In most races the cars always seem to have some upgrades even if it's just filters. You don't see many races against a tweaked 63!

Wait, dyno tuning doesn't do anything for N/A cars. Although mine magically got 25rwhp & 30rwtq after the canned tune, on race gas....

 

Eh 335i w/tune brings it to what 400hp? While SL63 is still ahead on HP and torque...I think the driver of the SL63 doesn't know what he's doing as well.

I guess that 800 pounds of weight did it for you?

 

AHAHAH yea slower then i thought i was reading on car and driver its over 4400 lbs??? is that right!!! I remeber when you raced one.

? im at around 360 WHP dynojet so im over 400hp... What is there to do just plant your foot, the car was WOT i cleary heard the exhaust since i was behind him in the start.

If i was beside him i would have easily walked him, but i came from behind and pass him!

 

Interesting race but are you sure it was real SL63 or a Poser ?

SL63 AMG comes with 518Hp and 465Torque
VS
335 400HP and about 400torque (stock is 300HP and 300Torque)

SL has about 100hp and 65 more torque And with the weight ratio, should be a close race ...... Just my 2 cents.

No i asm 100% it was a SL63, the badge on the side, the rims, the rear diffuser the spoiler the exhaust were not fake and the Sound is pretty hard to be a poser!!! it was just sick!!!

It weights too much to be a close race IMHO!


Thanks... if he was messing up tiptronic i would have really pulled hard on him. I have beaten and raced alot of fast cars, a single mistake puts either car a length behind quickly!! It was a steady creep

Car&Driver tested the SL63 in the 1/4mile with results of 12.9 @ 112mph
A JB3 E92 335 will be running mid 12's with a good launch and trapping near 115.

 

I was expecting more from the SL63 myself, roughly equal power to the SL55 and better gearing. Any other tests trapping higher?

 

If u guyS thing a jb3 335 won't beat a stock sl63 Ill put money up for him that it will. He even beat stock cls55. (maybe a stock e55 also hahhaahaha)

yea i seen weight figures of over 4400lbs for it, that alot of weight even for the power its given!

I was surprised that it wasnt faster, the CLS55 AMG i raced put up a much better fight and was alot faster without even the MCT tranny and the extra HP. but i guess the weight killed it.
