Stock STIs dont have a chance with Clk55s. I still have mine and had alot of fun with it. Well since I got my C63 the Clk55 feels like a slug I hardly drive the Clk55 because I'm having so much fun in the C63

Nice kill (again).

Practice your launches by knowing your powerband. Wheelspin will cause you to lose plenty of races and you won't be able to play "catch-up" at 100mph, let alone 80+ (1/8th mile mark) under a lot of circumstances.

Also, don't race on compromised surfaces (dust, moisture, etc). Your car is too fast for that, LSD or not.

Its very tricky to launch clean with the Clk55. No LSD,not enough lbs in the rear. Just get sticky tires.

Maybe. But going to use the Clk55 for daily use eventually. So much quieter, softer ride, better gas mileage. Good for daily use. I think the C63 is somewhat raw. Ride is borderline brutal with the AMG perf Pack.

See how the car responds at idle and with a brake torque as you increase the rpms.

Uneven surfaces (tire grooves), cold tires are problems. Warm tires and warm pavement will still probably yield a 1.9x 60ft with proper launch technique.

OP, your post seems to indicate that you were shifting the vehicle manually rather than letting it shift itself. If so, helpful hint: don't do this. The shifts take longer to execute in manual than in full auto, particularly on the 1-2 where it will hang. Only way around this when shifting manually is to bump the shift lever several hundred RPM before redline, which defeats the purpose.

It works best to stomp it and let it handle the shifting.

As to 60' times, if you hit a 1.9x in a verified stock CLK55 I'll buy you a steak dinner. That's a pretty hard target to hit at 3450 pounds on 245 rear tires with pert near 400 lb-ft; best I've seen is just shy of 2.1. Add another 600 pounds or so and bigger tires (or better still, sticky aftermarkets) and it makes for an easier vehicle to launch, even a mullet can do it.

Mustang GTs, F-bodys, 335s, SRT-8s, R/Ts, GTOs have been doing it for years on 245s and 255s. It's technique. The 1st gen. CTS-V is an exception due to the management of the clutch, power delivery, extra stiff suspension and tires.

2.1+ is totally unacceptable for any rear drive 13sec car.

Additional weight MAY help the initial bite provided the suspension squat doesn't change the tire camber too much. Once rolling, the weight is detrimental and negatively affects the 60ft. Plus that proposed 600lbs hurts on the big end too.

We're talking about a 0-35mph+ time here. 600lbs hurts that. http://www.wallaceracing.com/60-footmph.php

Put it this way: when you own one and/or turn a 1.9x sec 60' time in one on stock rubber, then you can lecture me as to what is, and what is not, possible in one.

Not if both vehicles have the same weight/hp ratios. Then, the heavier car should easily score a better 60' time by virtue of its greater traction.

Not if both vehicles have the same weight/power ratio. Then, the heavier vehicle will have superior traction, per Physics 101.

I figured as much. Your driving, and knowledge, leaves a lot to be desired.

So find a CLK55, stock, which has turned a 1.9x and you can lecture me about it. As to personal attacks, well, this is typical for you when you don't have the data to back it up, and as for knowledge, well, your shining examples are still there in the CLK550 vs E55 thread for anyone looking for a good laugh.

Find a stock 208 CLK55 that's turned a 1.9x. Chappy and Jon both turned 2.1s, and have the fastest stockers that I'm aware of. The car's been out for nine years now, so by all means, produce the data (for once).

Looks like a couple might have. http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...ag-Racing.html to run 13.1s

And you concede a 2.0 is possible? Not many CLK55 timeslips posted.

And speaking of personal attacks, also keep crying about that thread. Hilarious.

Careful reading as usual; none of the ones listed as STOCK, I repeat, STOCK, hit a 1.9x 60' time. As to a 13.1: Jon's 13.1 run had a 2.1 60' time.

And even fewer with a 1.9x 60' time in a stocker, i.e. zero.

How is it a personal attack to point out that you seem to think your car is a curmudgeon? You're the one who says it's "The Andy Rooney of Cars".

And you know for a fact the two listed are not stock, albeit speculation on those two.

:
Once again, not what it refers to.

I'm not crying about it (why would I cry about coming out on top?), I actually want people to read it, so they can judge for themselves the veracity of your information.
You mean once boxed into a corner since you have no knowledge of performance capabilities of open diff cars that you go crying to the Mods so you can get the last word in on a thread that was locked?

And even fewer with a 1.9x 60' time in a stocker, i.e. zero.
You seem to imply that 1.9x is impossible because:
1. It's too light
2. 245s are too narrow
3. Peak torque is too high
4. You couldn't do it
5. You haven't witnessed it
6. It isn't recorded on the internet

All are fallacies. Can you give a concrete reason why it can't be done?

Please don't reveal that when you tried your tire pressure was below 30psi and you tried stomping the throttle rather than a roll-on or low rpm brake torque.

Careful reading again. Cars that are stock are clearly labled with a pound sign.

Deuuuuuuuce, deuuuuce....keep slinging the mud, you're only soiling yourself here.

Again, I invite people to read the thread so that they can see what an expert you are on automobiles. They can see what you wrote, and how you wrote it, and decide for themselves just how knowledgeable and trustworthy you are.

Further, I have no intention of wasting time arguing with a know-nothing who has a proven track record of repeated lies and dubious information.

The fact is this: I owned a CLK55 for over six years, have forgotten more about launching the car than you know, and for you to lecture me about the capabilities of the car speaks volumes about your mindset.

Again: you claim it can be done. So prove it. When you find a single solitary example of it being done, then please, do share it with the rest of us. The onus of proof is on you here, as you claimed that "properly launched" the car should hit a 1.9, when the fact is that you've probably never even launched one, let alone owned one.

So prove it.

Par for the course with you. And regarding the # sign, it's dependent on who enters the information.

2.1 60ft = fail.

Actually, you=fail, for making a claim you can't back up (as usual), and for being arrogant enough to think you know more about the capabilities of an automobile than people who own, or have owned, that automobile.

So we'll give you an "A" for arrogance, but an "F" for FAILure to back up yet another claim. Claim without evidence = fail.

As I said: do post that 1.9x 60' for a stock 208 CLK55 when you find it. Even better would be to see you actually do it--oh, wait, you don't own one.

That only bears a repeat because your knowledge is lacking, as is your technique and/or skill.
