SL63 v 997 shaking hands

I was driving home from London yesterday, cam to a great bit of dual carriage way ( free way ) no police and not much traffic. Doing about 90mph I noticed a Porsche join. After a couple of seconds he came wooshing by.
So I buried it and caught him doing about 120, he then proceeded to give it the go, so did I but I kept catching him, I thought it was because he was making a hole in the air, this happened a couple of times then we were caught in some slower moving traffic, I realized my adrenalin was going and my hands shaking slightly. The traffic cleared and he went again, this time when I started making on him he moved over, my god shall I go for it, the excitement was rushing through my body, yes, I totally floored it and passed him with relative ease, once I made a few lengths I quickly looked down,

over 170 mph
I slowed, and didn't care what came next, he caught me, then along side he gave me the English salute, then dropped back. 10 minutes later I stopped at a petrol station, wow my hands were shaking with adrenalin.
Think that will do for a while.

Sounds risky but as a general rule never "race" in tandem on public roads.

Sorry to sound pedantic but this section is called KILL stories.
Any way the road was completely Free from traffic.

I'm well aware of kill stories sections, and I'm aware of consequences from bad decisions.

In tandem you do not know what is in front of the other driver, whether a cop in the other direction, a road hazard or a hazard that appears (animal, driveway, debris, etc).

Sorry to sound pedantic but other than weaving, that is the most dangerous and foolish type of racing on public roads.

Give me abreak Deeuce. The highways are made for highway speeds of this caliber and if you are on the other lane of the car you are racing and have a clear vision of what is up front, it sounds like a reasonable place to open it up.
Obviously being aware of your surroundings is a must and everyone understands that the police could be anywhere waiting for speeders like us.
Life is too short.
A Carrera (even an S) is no match on the highway for an SL63

Sounds like a fun time just be safe out there. Were you not worried about speed cameras in that area. I heard they are all around greater london.

You completely missed my point. In tandem means limited or NO sightlines for the car that is following. And at those speeds, the reaction time required when the first car swerves or brakes hard isn't humanly possible.

I am grateful for your concern as to my welfare, but please read my post again. The road was particularly known to me, of course there is nothing
coming the other way, as you are on a freeway, you have good vision ahead
and it's well known the police seldom are seen on this particular piece of road.
So I think it's safe to assume the maneuvers were safe enough, my god though over 170 is quite an amazing feeling.
By the way, I have seen race video's where there racing along busy highways, but I guess 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Yes, all around the country they have what is called safety cameras,!Huh!
Safety my ***, they are little white vans that just park anywhere with their
nasty little cameras making loads of money. The trouble is their not fixed and
move about to catch you out!

I DON'T COME HERE ANYMORE
congrats-P cars are hard to keep going up top-at 170mph, its almost maxed out, you've got plenty of room to go yet. Widebodies are C4's,Turbo's or GT class cars-my guess-only a guess is that it was a stock(ish) turbo prob. gen 1 997-or a heavily modded C4S (dont see many of those in coupe form tho...mostly cabrio's)-
nice work!

Thanks
I was quite amazed how easily I passed him, considering I had to have the full force of air against me, but then they don't have great drag times.

997 turbo does not "top out" at 170. it was most likely a c4.

Don't sweat this guy. Every forum that has a 'kill story' section has these guys that feel the need or obligation to lecture.

Have fun and be safe......

You more than most know how stupid it is to race in tandem on public roads.

Even if by some optimal set of conditions it was "safe" for the OP to do so, anyone else reading who never thought of it may have learned something.

Im sure every street race puts someone or property at risk. With that stipulation as sound8 put it, its the kill stories section, so comment on the race and credibility but lets stop flying ourselves over the pond just to pretend that we can judge.

Stay on target here guys.

Absolutely!

Nobody buys a Porsche or Ferrari or AMG to take Grandma to the shops.
It's a love thing, what ever turns you on, and when you meet someone
else's love thing , the fights on. You want to prove your machine is better and that your driving is better. No one can tell me, if there driving
something hot they don't feel a little adrenaline start when something
equally hot comes along side, it's just a natural reaction. Once committed to enter the arena it's all go regardless, much more so when I was younger, now
very rarely, my reactions are slower, I know that, so I save it for those moments when all the conditions are right.

Thanks guys for the support, however I have read many a kill story
similar to mine without some members getting all steamed up.

OK I promise I won't do it any more.

Keep it up. Go ahead and promote racing in tandem. It's the most stupid type of street racing there is. Ignorance is bliss isn't it?

Funny, go read some other kill sections and it's frowned upon too.

I didnt say it tops out at 170.....and we are not sure if it was a turbo he was driving with-I'm making the comment that above 170mph-its hard for these cars to continue to pull/over take-

heh

"P cars are hard to keep going up top-at 170mph, its almost maxed out" Sure sounds like you were saying it was almost topping out.

I"m pretty sure it wasn't a turbo. Regardless good kill and glad you had fun! I remember the first time I destroyed a 997 C2S(in SLK) ... it was a great feeling.

Instead of posting a piece of fun, some members have got all out of shape.
The Porsche was not a turbo. It was a 911 997 s wide body, which I think
s stands for.
When you say tandem I presume you mean one car behind the other.
This was a freeway, so it was more side by side, and it was a well known road
with very little traffic or police. In fact the conditions couldn't be better. I
certainly enjoyed it immensely.

To all that supported me, thanks

To those who criticized, don't read it
