OP gave a very nice story, and all of us were happy to read it. We don't need parental advisory warning telling us how to live our lives.
You must do what is best for your self at any given time, just as those girls should have done what was best for themselves and left space. If OP would have taken time to warn them and they crashed anyway, then they would be taking OP to court for distracting them. Its called personal responsibility.

If you rear end someone in an accident you are liable for that accident. Bottom line! Anyone in that situation would have done the samething. There plenty of people who wouldn't have even turned around to see if they where fine.
