My S65 and a GT3.....
I drive an '06 S65 with an ECU tune from Jerry at Eurocharged and a buddy of mine sell's Porsche's for a living and occassionally takes one home for the weekend. He had a 2009 GT3 recently and was running his mouth about how he'd embarass the 65.....constantly referring to it as a land yacht, the country club caddy, the 777 of cars, etc....."you got your penny loafers and golf clubs in the back of that thing?? Where's your co-pilot to fly that thing, are you approach lights working?".....yada, yada, yada. He actually had me in tears laughing....funny guy for sure.
So, we went to a local safe/privately owned area and made some runs- 3 people in my car, 2 in his. From a 25mph punch I gave him the move where he immediately put a car on me....by the time we hit about 120-130 I had made up the car length and I thought I was going to come around him....I even started waving "ba-bye" to him, but we were absolutely dead-locked and I couldn't shake him.....I'd gain a tad on him then he'd make it up, and vice versa.....we shut down at about 160.
Then we went from about 50mph at the exact same time where I immediately put about half a car on him and he made up maybe a foot or two....and then once again we were dead even to about 160....the benz completely silent, the GT3 sounding wicked and my boy hard at work banging gears.
We did several shorter runs and it seemed that the cars were about dead even.....the benz always seem to pull a little down low but he'd eventually make it up on the big end but he was never, ever close to passing me and never made any significant gain on me. It was hot out- about 90 degrees.....I think in the cold air the turbs would react a little better.....
Needless to say the folks involved were like "holy s*hit that benz is fast, I can't believe you hung with that GT3???" That Porsche is a bad-a** car and it sounded absolutely killer......but the 5yr old, big body Merc with 75kmiles handled her pretty well and in an "effortless" fashion......quiet, smooth, stable and completely unsuspecting......and we were extremely hard on the stop-pedal when we were shutting down a few times.....the 65 right next to the GT. He was surprised by the braking ability as well........
As we end the day he rolls down his window and says "where you headed?".........I replied "to the country club for a few golf lessons and then to Larry's shoes for a new pair of loafers.....you wanna join?" We died laughing.
Yes, I dig my ride..........

^^^meh, not going to buy it haha. But "we" (gt3 guys) have every advantage for the corners so its not even a fair comparison...hell even our tires are semislicks. But ya, the 65 is as highway star, I wouldnt mess with em when I had my street gt3.

Although there is merit to the fact the twistys are far different than a track, braking distances, transitions and power out of the turns will be much better in the GT3.

The GT3 is a great car period! Porsche's offer Speed and Handling, It's really is the best of both worlds and that is the only other brand I have respect for other than MB as an European Automaker.

That V12 S65 is a seriously fast *****. One of my old, old friends (he is 84 now) made it to the semi-finals of the street rod nationals at Bristol. He was running street tires, pump gas in his Henessy tuned S-klasse. Had a friend in the car too. Was sitting in the staging lanes and the officials came over, pecked on the window and said, "Sir, we are going to have to ask you to turn off your A/C, the condensation is dripping onto the track." To which he replied, "Hell, I am an old man and it is hot out, that could kill me." He got 4th place and swears all of the hot-rods that beat him were cheating, lol.
He also owns a highly modded 911 twin turbo awd that puts down 10.99's. He is who I want to be like when I grow up.
