LOL! I guess your rigth, but it's hard trying to find another four door sedan with 500hp

Mercedes makes incoherent packages, we just gotta make do.

There's a huge price difference between a Benz and a Cadillac. If you were to even spend a fraction of that price difference in upgrading the performance of a Cadillac you'd also be in the 500 hp range.

If you were to compare similarly priced vehicles, you could compare an SLK to a Corvette. In terms of performance and appearance, I don't think I need to convince anyone that the Vette would dominate an SLK.

The vette still has a crap interior. And honestly, I'm not sure of the times of a Vette, what are they like? All I know is the my dads friend let me take his vette out for a spin and I loved it but couldn't get over the fact that the interior wasn't up to par as other cars I'm used to.

Yes, there is a huge price difference, so? I'm not exactly sure what your trying to say, that they aren't comparable?

Uh oh, deja vu, LS430 vs S500!

Oh and bobs, I'm sorry I called you an idiot before, that was kinda rude of me.

No offence taken

There are some pictures of a Corvette at http://www.corvettemuseum.com/pictur...paper-03.shtml

The base model is 350 hp & 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. The Z06, which costs about $7,000 more is 405 hp, and 0-60 in 4.2. There's also a limited production Z06 that is 585 hp right out of the factory, and was listed at $95,000 (Canadian) brand new.

I'm looking to buy one this Spring. American cars are good for people like me who can't afford an MB

I'm gonna have to agree with boy wonder on this one - vettes haven't had a decent interior since the 60s.

Going back to the original topic, Caddy STS is a nice fast car for its time, you can't compare it to new AMG cars (you can't even compare Sports cars to the new AMGs).

I've race a STS too on my 99 E55 and beat him, but I must say it did pretty good against me (0-60 and 0-90) for only having 300 hp and being FWD.

LOL! That gave me a good laugh.

But the Vette is for spanking exotics, the 95$K one doesn't make any sense as you could get a real exotic. IE: Ferrari 355.

vraa--You can't get a Ferrari 355 for even close to 95,000 Canadian dollars. For argument's sake, let's say could--it would still get tuned in a race by the Vette.

When you lose a race, I think the last thing on your mind would be who has a better interior.

I know the whole corvette thing is off-topic, but my point is you should compare your cars to others in a similar power or price range, (ie not a 300 hp Cadillac). Like Tommy's example, doing so is like comparing a Ninja to a tricycle.

Oops, sorry, I think I missed that Canadian part.

The thing the vette is for is spanking exotics for a price that's extremely cheap. Instead of getting something like that though you could get a real exotic ala the 355, it may not be fast, but it is a real Ferrari.

LOL! When you lose a race the first thing is probably like, but he's got NAAWWWS

Yeah I understand that we should compare car to car, but what other cars are in the S55/66 range? BMW 760? Slow I'm open to suggestions though.

Compare it with the S2 M5, 470bHP, 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. It has a naturally aspirated 5.0L engine. It costs $30,000 more than the 395bhp M5.

I think the M5's direct competition is the W211, if I remember right, the E55 is at 4.3 seconds 0-60 as per http://caranddriver.com/article.asp?...&page_number=3

$30K in mods includes a Kleemann s/c (which makes it god like) and a Civic..

I don't know - if I lose a race, I'd like a nice, comfortable place to cry in. :p

Y r u talking about the M5 when Im talking about the S2 M5. You asked for something to compare with the amg, and the S2M5 is perfect, cuz its the same HP. But its still faster than the AMG, its almost as if BMW HP is worth more than mercedes HP - whenver the HP figures match, the Bimmers end up faster

Because the Dinan (That's the S2 you're talking about right?) S2 package is a joke, Mr. Steve Dinan had said that his package made a significant amount of power which .. didn't. A better product for much cheaper is the Evosport Pulley. Aside from that part, the reason I brought up the Kleemann supercharger is that you modded the BMW (Ultimate Driving Machine anyone? I'm sure as hell not going to disagree) so I got to mod it's Mercedes equilivent the W211.

The small point I'm kind of trying to make is that the BMW is made to be a fast vehicle. Heck, I remember reading 'an athelete in a pinstrip suit' in their ad inside their brochure. The Merecdes E55 (nor any of their AMG's) aren't meant to be 'fast'. However, they are, quite fast at that too. GT crusiers you can nickname them.

The M Power division is a great alternetive (if not the only one) to AMG. I have respect for the cars they push out because it keeps the horsepower wars (and someday .. soon, handling wars) going. It's the reason why I can take a four door sedan that is meant to be the worlds finest luxury .. chariot.. and make it run 0-60 worthy of supercar territory at the same time keeping my wine chilled so I can enjoy the after party

I'm always open to new things now, even more so that over the weekend we've had a few awkward experiences involving the biggest assumptions in the world. More on that later!

Oh, and to answer your original question, the reason I said M5 was because I wanted to compare stock to stock. Once you start modding cars it's gets almost insane like.

However, you brought an S2 so I bring the Kleemann E55. Theoretically of course.

Guess I just could not resist jumpin in on this one at the tale end. I have a 2000 Vette that dynos 440 hp crank with a 12.1 quarter. I am sellin it and goin E55. Tired of fixin the Vette and yes the interior is plastic paradise. Vettes are nice fast cars, but they are chevys. Looking forward to tryin a Z06 in the quarter with my E55. They are shifters and unless the guy is real good, he smokes the tires 8 out of 10 times and you wave bye bye with that ole auto tranny.
