SLK 230 vs. Mustang GT

Cheap race, but good story :

As I'm coming back from a party around 3 or 4 am in the morning, I see a maroon, not so bad looking GT come up to me... FAST. I floored it as soon as I noticed he was trying to pass me in the left lane and we keep going and going for miles... I played with him most of the time. We stop at a red light, and FYI: I had a 280 pound guy in my small SLK passanger seat. The guy in the GT was alone.

As we're on a long red light, we exchange looks and take off on a green light... I smoke his car in the start, and then let go of the throttle and wait for him to catch up... I gun it just as he's coming up.

As we're taking different directions, we honk the horn at each other and said our goodbye's.

The race was a thrill, but can't wait to take my future SLK 55 on the road!

Bad driver then... I don't know of many stock SLK230's than run a 14.4 1/4 mile or better.

I honestly don't know much about Mustang's, but I do know the car is pretty heavy. That may have given me an advantage... minus the fact that my friend was about 280 lbs

I have new High Performance Michelin's (Z Rated of course) and K&N Filters with a new oil change at the time. That's about it...

What are the GT's spec's / numbers?

265hp and does about a 14.4-14.7 depending on the source. I don't know about weight but I would guess it is near the SLK's.

one of my friends has a 2003 2.5 Z4 and even he beat a GT before... ?

And I'm sure the SLK weighs much less than a Mustang.

2004 Mustang GT:
260hp, 302lb/ft tq, 3347lbs

1998 SLK230:
192hp, 200lb/ft tq
3055lbs manual
3110lbs auto
+ 280lb passenger= 3335lbs/3390lbs

nearly 70 more hp and 100lb/ft torque and roughly the same weight at the time. Something went wrong for the Mustang driver or he never tried.

As far as your friend's 2.5 Z4:
184hp, 175lb ft tq, and 2976 lbs

I can't explain him winning either. I guess anything can happen in real life...

The GT must have had the parking brake engaged, the air on and pulling an anchor; even then you wouldn't beat it.

No way you beat that car, sorry.

It probably wasn't a "GT", just dressed to look like one...
