C32 vs. CTS-V

This is a copy/paste from my v6p.net post a while back (about month ago) on an encounter I had with a CTS-V

Stats on my car:
2003 C32 AMG
Evosport Under/Overdrive pulleys
Evosport Stage I ECU (powerchip branded)
Latest Dyno 327hp / 338tq
20" Brambus

I am headed back tonight from west county in st.louis coming over to the illinois side ... I am on 270 North (5 lane highway) and crusing in the fast lane @ 80mph ...All is well, listening to this new CD I picked up off of amazon (Dreamstates - Disk1) and notice a car that got on the highway and shot over a few lanes to get side by side with me...

I slow down to about 72mph and let him cruise up some for I can see his rear, sure enough its a new CTS-V, so I switch over to sports mode (get rid of the ghetto lean and setup for a run) ; drop down to 3rd...and line up even with him (75ish)... his windows are tinted and he rolls them down and waves, like i know this guy... then points foward, like using sign language that he wants to roll... I can notice he has a passenger with him video taping this... So I figure screwit, there are hardly any cars up ahead and give him a nod....

So he starts to back down to 50mph and I can hear his car (musta slapped it into 2nd) ... so I match same and click down to 2nd gear (running about 5000rpm) ...he honks and boom were off... slammed to 6200rpm and back down to 4200 climing fast through 3rd I slam it into 4th, he is about a 1/2 car lengh ahead!!!! WTF?? climbing through 4th I keep with him but he gains little more ground ...now were talking near 145+mph and I back off, with him ahead... This is the 2nd time in the history of having the car that I have been behind someone on a highway run...

He slows down and give's a wave and takes the next exit... I have been searching for Caddy forums with CTS-V cause I figure since the guy was filming he's going to post this win vs a C32...if someone finds that video, its me...

Folks are telling me there is no way he was stock, i hope not!

Uhh, the CTS-V has has around 400 HP and similar Torque numbers. I don't see why he would not beat you, having 70 less HP and not as much torque.

Cheaper than the c32 too, plus Caddy probably has more incentives. Too bad it's fugly.

the C32 number are rear wheel

Alumar's numbers are rear wheel HP and Torque numbers.

CTS-V's numbers are at the crank.

Stock C32 HP and Torque at the crank are 349hp and 333torque.

assuming a 17% driveline loss, the C32 has in the neighborhoold of 382hp at the crank. So, that would mean the CTS has roughly 20 more hp. Given reviews of the CTS at around 5.0 sec to 60mph, now where near the claimed 4.6 from Cadillac. These facts would lead me to believe that the modified C32 should have handled the CTS without a fuss. My guess is that the Radillac is modified to some degree. Perhaps the slowish 0-60 times of the Radillac are due to traction and thus a non-issue with a 50mph roll on...

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
but the CTS-V is 200 lb more than a C32, I believe that here there are two thinks:

- if the race would have been a C32 with 17' or 18' it shold be way closser.

- further, the C32 has way better Cx than the CTS-V, so for me that CTS-V was moded becasue me with similar mods and 17' OEM ha killed a RS6 on 125-140 mph range.

Pierre, but the Caddy had passenger with video camera in it and the driver in C32 was all by himself. I'm sure the dude with camera in Caddy and big wheels on C32 should cancel each other in this race.

Do they really have 400 hp? I would have never of guessed! I ran into one last week down here on the expressway. From 50ish to 100 I bet I had 3-4 lenths on him. And off the bottle I'm not at 400 hp.

Unlike other opinions, I think it's a good looking car though!

you got owned by your own 20" wheels

stock vs stock, it's probably 50/50 because motor trend recently tested the CTSV to run 5.1 0-60 and 13.48 @105.33

of course these are just reference numbers. just to give some comparison the Jag S-type R they ran was 5.2, 13.69@101.31 from the same test.

I totally agree with u on that statement. Those 20inch killed ur car performance. Most of the CTS-V's that dyno's were between 315-330rwhp which is a little bit less than 400 Crank hp giving 15% drivetrain loss. So i would say they are losing more HP from the engine to the wheels because its has the same motor as the Z06 which is putting down 350-365rwhp in stock form. As far as CTS-V beating a modded C32 i would say that the wheels killed ur car. CTS-V's are having a hard time trapping anything over 107mph in the real world, not magazine racing. So if a stock C32 ran a stock CTS-V that would be a close race, but ur car a C32 with atleast 35rwhp more losing a stock CTS-V makes me wonder what was wrong with the C32. Put them stock wheels back and go look for him again
