I'm driving from my girls house. a kid in a 740il with the bmw sport package. we meet at the light he looks at me and shows me the nod. I brisked him off and reved my engine. when the light went green we gunned it. I had him 3 cars by 95. not really fun race.

cl500 and s500 are the same speed. Thats very stange that you whipped a cl500, when the car outpowers yours by almost 50hp and is almost the same weight. cl500 has 315-320 hp and 357 torque. 740 has no chance vs v8 benz's.

Is your S500 a 95'? My uncle has a 99 740IL and is allways talking sh*t ! how he could take my 2001 S500, I know my S500 has more HP & TQ than his & have about the same curb LB's

The W140 S500 is slower than the 740i/iL. The 740i/iL has a curb weight in the neighborhood of 4,200lbs. whereas the S500 is around 4,800lbs. The S500 has 33 more hp (315-282) but around 600lbs more weight to carry around. The quoted 0-60 from mags and MB is 7.2sec for the S500/CL500. The mags and BMW say the 0-60 of the 740i/iL is 6.8sec. So, unless the BMW was broken or the driver doesn't know how to put his foot down, you should have lost by a lot.

I thought this was w220 S500, then, I agree. If it was W140 S500, I don't think it is possible to whip the 740i sport. is it the new 740i? or just the old one, the with the 4.0 displacement? not 4.4? anyway, who cares, still the BMW get killed hehehehehe, peace

See the only problem is, people that race the s500 know what they are doing. when I raced him I put my car into B and reved my car right before it went green. I tell you agian, we were dead even for 3 seconds and then I switched into second gear I just pulled on him like nothing. My freind., race your uncle's car and see what happens. I won't tell you agian for all you anti-benz people that I took him by 3 cars. I don't care if I lose to a car but I don't like people flaming me by looking at stupid stats. by the way I raced my dad's 745 from a 0 he took me by almost 2 cars. then we raced from a 60 and I pulled on him. Now you people tell me how it is possible for that to happen? because benz is unexpected power. 0-100km times and specs don't really make sense when it comes to street racing.

It's definitely possible that the Benz chopped the 7-er, anything is possible on the road as long as the two cars are SIMILAR in specs.

You live in New Jersey right? Well the NA market S500 does 0-60 in 7.2 no arguments, been there done that. Every mag on earth plus MB are not wrong. You quote of 6.6 is dead wrong for an NA market car. In Europe the SWB S500 does 0-60 in 6.6 but is lighter than the NA market S500 by several hundred pounds and had full throttle fuel enrichment. You have the benefit of neither.

Again one of several things prevented the 740i/iL from taking your pick slip:

1) The BMW was running on 5 cylinders
2) The BMW driver is a moron
3) The BMW was trailoring a bus. Was he trailoring a bus and you have convienently forgot to mention that part? haha!

True and not true. the data you post at 6.8sec is for 740i sport --short wheel base ONLY :

"The 740i weighs more than two tons, but there's torque abundant to push it through a 0-60 mph sprint in a quick 6.8 seconds, according to BMW, the shorter final drive ratio clipping a tenth off the run."

So we know 740iS with shorter final drive ratio is at 6.8sec and regular 740i than 0.1sec slower at 6.9 sec. Would it be resonable to assume that 740iL long wheel base would be at least at 7.0sec 0 to 60? Or do you believe that 740iL is capable of 6.8 just like short wheel base 740iS?
And as always its "according to BMW"--wha tabout in real life? Was BMW as always the only one to be able to get those numbers ?


Regular 740iL, long wheel base wich was in race with the russian dude with only 18" sport wheels will never do 0-60 in 6.8 sec. Times would be at best idenical with Benz pulling in straight line just like hte dude said.

That is BMW's annoying BS to always put out times within 0.1-0.2 sec of comparable benz and claim the paper victory.

BMW put BOTH 745i and long wheel base 745Li at 5.9 sec knowing that w220 is rated at 6.1 sec. What a bull, W211 E500 does 5.9 sec 0 to 60.

Also when you read those magazines you dont know which car is 4255lb because they take it from BMW usa and its usually one weight for ALL 7 series just like in the example below. Do you belive that all three 740i, 740iL and 750iL have the same curb weight as in the info below?

the regular 740iL is 6.9 according to BMW, are you telling me that the manufacturer of the car is lying? Because if you are then all the 7-series owners should demand a refund!

the S500 is 7.2 according to MBUSA, again are you telling me that MB is lying as well? Because in order for Soviet to PULL on the 740 from second gear on "like nothing" would imply that MB is not quoting their cars accurately. Not to mention every mag test I have ever seen has posted the S500 at 7.2 just like MB said.

The car he "raced" could have been a 740i sport or an iL, all we know is that it had sport wheels.

I don't understand why everyone has to judge, people don't come here to write a bull**** paragraph to give the benz a good look. people write these stories because they really experianced them. I would say Nice Kill or Nice Try, not ur full of crap. Anything could have happened in that race, I took him by 3 cars, he was 3 cars away from me. Yet agian I repeat in second gear I pulled on him like nothing. You guys don't have to believe me. non the less I weight 165 the driver of the other car had a passanger and him which both weight 200 pounds each if not more. I turned my a/c I don't know if he did. I think I have made it abundantly clear that given the same conditions and driver skill level, the 740 will not loose to an S500. I'm sure soviet did exactly as he said, because as he said, why would he post a lie? AND, as I said there must have been an *extenuating circumstance* that prevented the BMW from winning the race, ie. lack of driver skill, improper maintanance, etc.

Maybe people post dissenting/condescending opinions because others post a bunch of crap, did that ever occur to you MadC32?
