Corvette against SL600 any chance???
Not a kill story but a question, do any of the newer corverttes stand a chance against an 05 SL600. A person who lives down the street from me said we should race and see if my foreign car can stand up to his american vette.

Good luck!
Of special note: Turn ESP off, and hold for dear life. And make sure hard-top is up. Otherwise you'll have drag problems.

The new 2006 Z06 will be faster then both the SL65AMG and the SL600 in stock format and will come as a convertible.
0-60 numbers should be around 3.6-3.8 and 1/4 times in the 11's. The new Z06 will be a beast with 500HP and LIGHT! Will be the best bang for your buck since it will be priced in the $60K's. The last generation Z06 was a great car, this will have over 100 more HP and 100 more pounds of torque.
I will love to see a head to head with Viper, Ford GT40, and new Z06.

Yeah, but the new Z06 isn't out yet....
...so, if even if it's a Z06, you should take him if he's stock.
But those things are pretty easy to mod for some big HP, so if he's modded it's a "depends" kind of deal. Only one way to find out, though!!

Very easy to mod and cheap when you consider a ECU/Pulley for a MB car runs you about $5K. My 04 E55 can take a Z06 in a straight line so a SL600 or SL65 will destroy it if you limit your wheel spin. I would recommend a AMG LSD system for your car to maximize all that power and torque.
Once the curves hit, all MB cars will be destroyed. MB cars are not track cars like a Z06.

That guy down the street could have a heavily modded Vette. These cars are so easy to mod that it's hard to find a Vette enthusiast that hasn't done something to the car.
My father has a 99 C5 that would blow the doors off my Viper & E55. It's a custom built 395 crate with an ATI S/C. He runs drag radials around town and traps 130 in the 1/4 mile. My Viper traps 118 and I haven't taken the E55 to the strip yet. I'm guessing the E55 will be 116 or so, who knows.

Very rude
Hope the attached article by E420SportGT opens your mind. I have driven many cars from NSX's to 911TT (modded) and always appreciated a car for what it was engineered to do.
Yes, a car under $70K will be faster then your SL600 which cost double. That in itself is a insane statement but a very true one (thumbs up to American muscle). The SL600 is a wonderful car as is my E55, but being a car nut I appreciate other cars and when "kudos" is warranted it is given.

My February C&D came in the mail today. The Z06 article was scanned from the mag. Would love to see the video of your SL600 and the SL55. A buddy of mine test drove the SL65 and said that he had so much wheel spin at any speed that it was scary. I hope MB starts putting a LSD system in these high HP cars. It would make sense that your 0-60 and 1/4 times would be faster then the SL65.
Lexani - Have you considered getting the OEM AMG LSD system for your car? Mine will be arriving at my dealer next month and should make a big difference for my E55 when I launch.

Video- Yes, indeed, Im sending it to one of the generous members we have here, so its out of my hands until it gets posted up. The video, is not some super high speed, all out, pedal to the metal type. So don't expect my wheels to catch fire. Its more of a teaser. And remember, I don't gun it all the way, hear the notes my engine plays. I don't think he did either for that matter, but it should as my friend puts it in the video "gnarly".

OEM AMG LSD- As for that package, your mentioning, pherhaps you can go into a little detail, I should like to know more about this. Price, etc. Much thanks!

Under E55 Forum, great thread on OEM AMG LSD and Kleemann. The AMG system has only been available for those in Germany who go to AMG to get this installed.
The new Z06 will not be out until early Fall last time I checked. If you find any Z06's they will be 2005's.

The last Z06 weighed about 3,150 pounds with 405 horsepower and ran mid 12's.
The new C6 is lighter than the C5 was, so it's safe to assume that the new Z06 will be the same weight as the old--with 100 more horsepower.
i.e., it will have the same horsepower as a Ford GT, and weigh about 2-300 pounds less, and only 50 less horsepower than the new Viper, while also weighing 3-400 pounds less.
So, a comparison between it, the Ford GT, and the Viper would be a most interesting read. I'd think this car should be capable of 1/4 times in the 11.7-11.9 range with a really good driver (and I mean really good, because it's *not* easy to run those times with a manual!), if they manage to get enough traction out of it at launch.
And yes, it's ridiculously easy to mod 'vettes to run like hell. I know a guy who took a C5 automatic, added a high-stall speed torque converter and an exhaust, and with drag radials he could run consistent 12.7's all night long.
